Trump orders overhaul of US elections

President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed a sweeping executive order seeking to change how elections are administered across the country, especially rules related to citizenship and mail-in voting.

The order immediately sparked concern among voting rights experts, who said the president may not even legally have the authority to do some of the things he directed in the order. If allowed to go into effect, it could disrupt how Americans vote and have their ballots counted in ways that may disenfranchise many legitimate voters for every potential illegitimate voter it stops.

Trump’s order asserts that federal law requires all states to reject ballots not received by Election Day, directing the Justice Department to “take all necessary action to enforce” the requirement. The move seemed directly targeted at mail-in heavy states from California to Alaska.

The executive order also requires the Election Assistance Commission, an independent agency, to add proof of citizenship to the national voter registration form. States are required to accept that national form under federal law, but can still create their own voter registration forms.

If states don’t comply with the new order, they will lose federal funding, it says.

They tried to prevent this 3 elections in a row. They talked about Project 2025 NONSTOP. And people still voted for this. What are they supposed to do? The US voted for exactly what they get: The end of (their) democracy. What are the democrats supposed to do?

Democrats are mostly standing down letting it all play out. Some fighting through lawsuits etc. 

My opinion is they're trying to let it crash and burn to win the midterms in 2026.

Issue is they're destroying what's left of this country. 

Vocals Dems like Sanders and AOC have become the actual opposition when it comes to rhetoric, but Democrats overall are gambling with our rights and people are rightfully upset they are being passive about all of this.

girl the house senate are both republican - trumps in power 

dems literally have no power other than speaking out which ppl are doing 

aoc and bernie are doing the anti oligarchy rallies - its all we can do right now 

more americans wanted this - so we honestly just have to let it play out, the supreme court is stacked right - they gave trump presidntial immunity. we legit do not have anything we can use other than protesting

I think Trump learned a couple of things from the current Mexican government (the MORENA party). They're doing the same thing: first, they replaced the president of the National Electoral Institute with a woman who was close to party representatives. Then, under Sheinbaum's regime, they've been trying to completely change the institute into one administered by the government, so they can control the elections themselves. And yes, all this comes from a party that claims to be "left-wing"... I believe we need to start understanding that nowadays it's no longer about left and right, but about power-hungry people clinging to whatever narrative suits them to do as they please.

You are skimming over the fact that dems were not doing anything to put safeguards in place when they were in power, though. 

Literally everything you say are excuses. Everyone can be... politically persuaded, let's say, with enough force. It is just that the dems are cowards who say they "do not want to set a precedent" when, in fact, literally no one cares about a precedent being set. 

They didn't want to "abuse power" because they feared then republicans would do the same? Surprise surprise, Republicans do it anyway. 

You cannot legally overthrow fascism. Then again, dems don't really want that anyway.
