New Prime Minister Mark Carney has called elections today as expected. They will be held April 28th meaning he opted for a 5 week election which is the shortest election allowed under Canadian Law

The rush was expected as Mark Carney has an approval nearly twice as high as Justin Trudeau and wants to capitalize on momentum before it is lost

The Conservatives are sitting on a lot of donor cash which could make a longer election dangerous for Liberals as the Conservatives have a lot of money for self promotion and attack ads as well

Will be at the polls to keep PP away for sure. Altho I’m in a liberal stronghold in Montreal so in my riding it’s kinda for sure :vegas: Let’s see what the rest of Quebec and rest of Canada thinks :thriller:

You are small men. You are not worthy to rule the Dothraki.

I’m surprised Elon Musk hasn’t jumped in yet to promote PP or fund the conservatives… or has he?

Hope Mark wins because I saw comments on TikTok saying they "hope Poilievre wins to free Canada from its liberal dictatorship" :smh: which makes me think these people are not different from MAGAs....................

The Liberals have a good chance of winning as polls pivot towards their favour. However, It'll most likely be a minority government.

It's a risky but sensible call to go straight to the polls by Carney. His popularity is better than JT's and thanks to Trump's 51st state BS the polls have closed dramatically with the majority of high standard polling since Mark Carney was sworn in on the 14th giving the Liberal party a 2-3% avg lead.

Given the short term nature of the poll and the likelihood of Musk feeling the need to shove himself in, the Liberals may successfully fend off PP.

The gays know how to party

PP just knows how to criticize rather than offer realistic solutions. He reminds me of Andrea Horwath from the Ontario NDP many years ago. If you criticize every little thing way too much I loose respect for you. Put some energy into your own solutions rather than just criticizing all the time

Mark Carney has experience in private sector AND in Government (sort of, if you count running Central Bank as part of Government) as well as extensive background in economics

Pierre Poilievre just has experience as a career politician, on top of that one that think trickle down economics will fix everything

To be fair I do think we over regulatedband over taxed private sector a bit especially since unfortunately we have to compete so heavily with the US. But Mark Carney looks more Centrist than Trudeau anyway and seems open to tweeking the excessive red tape a little bit

I think hes much more balanced (and intelligent) than PP :legend:

Carney is a better alternative than Trudeau.  I don't think he's the ideal candidate as a PM but he's experienced enough to do the job.

Canada needs to restructure its economic and trade policies.  PP will end up conforming to Trump and will ruin the economy.

I think in terms of knowledge hes pretty ideal

He just is lowkey amateur at public speaking (by politician standards)
