In a series of posts on X Monday, Lizzo clapped back at critics of her new music before calling out the way Black women have historically been mistreated.

Four days after the release of her latest single “Still Bad,” Lizzo began by writing, “Saying my brand of ‘poptimism’ doesn’t work in a ‘post Covid world’ is a lazy take.”

Girls entire song catalogue gets a total of 1.2M streams a day on Spotify :ladyhaha:

Sorry to say it but her career is not in a good spot due to no artistic growth :air:

Her new music is excellent. In fact, it reminds me of Mayhem, especially Killah and Zombieboy. It's very funk and soul but with a modern pop sensibility. I look forward to her album.

She's a 'do as I say not as I do' type of person I see :flower:

Can someone educate these pop stars and let them know that defensiveness never works in the way they intend? If they were truly interested in improving their public image, they should just let the work speak for itself and not try to engage with the criticisms at every possible opportunity.

No one is truly convinced when told what to think. They're only convinced when they're moved by the energy and sincerity of the artist.

Not to be rude to lizzo but... she should lean into the criticism bc sometimes a bit of bad press is better than no press at all. :spin:

I mean... she's kinda right though. I'm not the biggest fan of her neest releases but she spoke truths.

She’s kinda right though. POC are always so mistreated and judged for things that others are celebrated for. ie Beyonces country music vs Chappells country music

When you feel like you have to defend your art that badly, then maybe it doesn't really stand for much in the first place? Like, why did you even make a song when later on, you gotta explain and tweet so much in order to try to convince people that it's a good song?

And also, I really miss when there was no social media and artists, instead of frantically looking for instant validation from strangers on X, just let their work breathe a bit and speak for itself while getting back to... idk, creating more art, not drama??

Are people being racist or is her new music just not good and she’s just using that as an excuse.
