Additionally Apple Lossless is not on by default, you have to go into settings/playback and enable it, and also select Hi-Res Lossless from the drop down menu for both Streaming and Downloads.

That's likely resulting from Dolby Atmos being the lead format where available. I actually listened to MAYHEM in DA over the weekend and it sounds TERRIBLE compared to the stereo format. All of Gaga's songs with the exceptions of Plastic Doll and really Enigma, sound terrible. Lyrics are missing, and some of the "newer sounds" mixed in drown out the vocals so everything sounds as though the artist is singing to you but from miles and miles away...or whispering in the shower. I'd say stick to Lossless but keep in mind that unless you're using a wired connection it won't truly be Lossless.
