Gaga did what Katy couldn't (1432 mini-review? Kinda?)

honestly i like katy and that’s like on her own merit one of the boys is a pretty iconic album so i think she knows how to tap into something authentic? yet fun and with her signature pop

i do agree that the only critic is her relationship with dr luke other than that she still gave it her best on this album

to critic katy i hope she is able to fully express herself on an album without the backlash and rly let the music just b the focal point ykno

So I guess you're the reason they call her the female Michael. :sue:

Nah, that's 'cause she tied his record of having five #1 singles from the same album. As if having #1's is what makes Michael Jackson "Michael Jackson" and not his omnipresence in the modern music industry :icant:

But anywayyyyyyy

It's one of only 3-4 songs I still listen to from 143 LOL.. I heard it was one of the producer's kids actually (hopefully not Dr. Luke's, eugh), but I don't think there's confirmation who exactly the voice is

But honestly I think Katy is just not capable of being self-aware to realize that just because she works with Dr. Luke (or any producers of her old hits), it doesn't instantly mean she can have another hit song and/or album - like someone close to her just needs to get through to her brain to diversify her team or contacts or something :saladga:

I'm saying! You can literally feel how scared Luke is to crawl out of his safe little box full of dated sounds. Pair that with Katy's desire to have hits again and it's a recipe for an insecure feeling flop album.

I hope her tour is mostly a "greatest hits" show 'cause idk if I'm willing to pay to see 143 live :kry: gonna wait for the setlist to drop before I even consider buying tickets.

Wonder is such a cringe song with that kids voice. :partysick: I honestly enjoyed Lifetimes and maybe I’m His He’s Mine and Crush for the samples, probably something else too. It wasn’t as bad they say, still a better listen than Witness except for Chained To The Rhythm.

Katy has a few issues which is why she isn't clicking.

1. The music is inauthentic. Nobody cares. Katy doesn't care. The producers clearly don't care.

2. She has nothing to say. OK, she loves getting plowed by her husband. That's not a reason to make 143.

3. She is in a bubble. Every songwriter knows that if you are living a dull life with no drama or new experiences then your writing will be dull.

4. Boobs don't sell so well in your late 30s.

Oh rip I kinda liked I Woke Up and Has A Heart :brat:

And yeah! At the very end of The Lost Children you can hear two kids talking, the one that goes "and all the lovely flowers" is Prince :bradley: it's small but cute

Haha that’s valid we all have our own tastes!! In my opinion they’re too cringey to be even the least bit enjoyable lmaoo. Genuinely glad if you enjoy them tho!

That’s so cute!! The Lost Children (along with all of Invincible) deserves to have some respect put on its name, so underrated

Yeah but it's Katy, ya know? Cringe is her middle name, that's what makes her the fun aunt :cheeky:

I have this whole theory about that song that it's about his own lost childhood. I mean, "I see the door simply wide open but no one can find me"? Come on :bradley:

The thing is, 143 sounds like any other artist could have made it and it would feel the same. MAYHEM sounds like only Gaga could have released it.

Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

"Don't let growing up get you down" encompasses who I believe she is as an artist. Silly, playful, light, some fun in an otherwise dark work. She should do more of that. Be the fun aunt society needs.

I strongly agree with this, Katy is really good at being silly and campy. I think the issue is that, as you said, it does not feel as if there's been much growth or evolution in her artistry. (and controversies aside) The formula she's been going by is a bit dated and not interesting when its a sound people have been hearing from her for multiple years if that makes sense?

If Smile was her Joanne, and 143(2) is her Chromatica, I fear we may be in for some Katy bops in a few years :bradley:

/TedTalk

Why did you have to go disrespecting Miss Chromatica like that?

I forgot there was a time she could pull something like that. :air: She's the industry example of "never take anything for granted."

I feel this as well. I think she should go back to her music theory fundamentals. Learn from Gaga, the superior musician, see what she (Gaga) does right, identify her own shortcomings (Katy’s) and maybe the next KP album will be better.

"I don't think she's kissed a girl."

Gaga said this a long time ago, but the idea is the same. Katy's not making art, she's making a product to sell.

Same as Britney Spears before Katy. Wouldn’t call her music “making art” but she was very popular and still kinda is. Gaga is on a Madonna level.

IF the world was ending, she'd die with a smile, so until then, we'll know
