Gaga did what Katy couldn't (1432 mini-review? Kinda?)

lets not compare a tragic attempt at "going back to where it all started" and how bland that album is to an absolutely flawless album from start to finish that lies within Chromatica

I'm glad someone else said it because I also think WONDER is easily the best song on 143 and the fact Katy didn't go that same direction for the whole album is insane, I really hope she can channel some more of that feeling on her next album:applause:

Listening to 143 again rn, and no shade to Katy but the only song I actually like is Wonder (the one that Dr. Luke didn’t produce lol)

I don’t want to join any hate trains, but this album’s definitely not for me

Maybe a couple songs I would defend if it was in the context of a different album (like the chorus of Nirvana isn’t bad, and All The Love has some redeeming qualities) but the project as a whole feels so flat that even the highlights don’t fully pull me in

Wonder's great  I still haven't looked it up but I'm assuming that's her kid singing? It makes me think of MJ having his son speak in a song from his last album :bradley:

She does uplifting and fun music so well, you have to wonder why she's sticking with that tired man and his busted sample packs. He's never gonna capture lightning in a bottle again, she should diversify tbh.

And yeah, nothing on this album felt like nails on a chalkboard just all but maybe 3 songs (from the deluxe version) are utterly pointless and forgettable :rip:

Ugh The Lost Children is one of Michael’s most underrated songs :bradley: is that actually his son singing on it though??

Yeah the only songs I would call flat out **BAD** on 143 are I Woke Up and Has A Heart, the others are just forgettable

Oh rip I kinda liked I Woke Up and Has A Heart :brat:

And yeah! At the very end of The Lost Children you can hear two kids talking, the one that goes "and all the lovely flowers" is Prince :bradley: it's small but cute

Anyone could make Katy Perry’s nachos but only Gaga can make her nachos. Like, “this sounds like a Katy Perry song” is something no one ever said, she doesn’t have a signature sound. When people say she’s re-heating nachos it’s because she is making safe music, not exactly re-using sounds from before that are known to be hers.

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

I disagree with most of your horrible Katy criticism

the only objective reason to dislike Katy’s new album is cause Dr Luke produced it and that’s the very ironic thing cause Cirkut produced a lot on Mayhem and you know who Cirkut is?

The producer of TEENAGE DREAM :kry: if only Katy would have worked with anyone except Dr Luke the snow ball wouldn’t have started :saladga:

Waiiiit Cirkut produced TD??? And she picked Luke? :selena:

I saw quite a few people say that about Dua Lipa/Sabrina Carpenter/Chappel Roan:ladyhaha:

Tell me what those songs have in common with Katy Perry’s music besides being generic

Katy has never been in touch with her artistry. Witness is perhaps her most unique and ambitious effort in that sense, so it's a shame that that era wasn't as well received. I think her hair being cut short had something to do with it lol because the music was fantastic. But she really is a cringe artist, in my opinion, and has not shown any artistic growth. She's a singles artist at best, but even at that, she has not found a way to evolve during her time in the industry. She truly got lucky with the singles she put out, but I would never put her in the categories of Gaga, Britney, or any top billed artist. it's hard to explain, but in a way she's a fluke.

My emotions blinded me :laughga: he only produced Wide awake and Part of me but those songs are FIREEE he also worked with every pop girl in the early 2010s a.k.a. The best eras of our divas: Rihanna, Britney, Kesha, Nicki

like it’s still so ironic how she didn’t pick him up :saladga: and how Gaga decided to work with him after working with every pop girl of her generation except her

And she made the right choice too 'cause Mayhem f*cks hard

So I guess you're the reason they call her the female Michael. :sue:

I've never had any interest in Katy at all. She's just too blatantly commercial for me. Never listened to 143 and never will.

That said, I love your take on things. I often don't agree (I think putting DWAS on Mayhem was a genius move on all fronts), but I enjoy how you break things down. You have such clarity of thought.

I'd totally buy a book where you breakdown various pop stars, what worked for them and what didn't, etc., for sure.

Joanne? Chromatica?

Smile and 143 aren’t even Cheek to Cheek levels of success :smh:

It's one of only 3-4 songs I still listen to from 143 LOL.. I heard it was one of the producer's kids actually (hopefully not Dr. Luke's, eugh), but I don't think there's confirmation who exactly the voice is

But honestly I think Katy is just not capable of being self-aware to realize that just because she works with Dr. Luke (or any producers of her old hits), it doesn't instantly mean she can have another hit song and/or album - like someone close to her just needs to get through to her brain to diversify her team or contacts or something :saladga:
