Any chance it will pass 85 again?

I think the score should be closer to 90 than 80.

It would be great if some scores got revised too.

"MAYHEM" is Lady Gaga's highest-rated album on Metacritic, which currently holds a score of 84, indicating universal acclaim. :firega:

This surpasses her previous albums, with "Chromatica" (2020) receiving a score of 79, "The Fame Monster" (2009) scoring 78, "The Fame" (2008) at 71, and "Born This Way" (2011) also at 71.

So Happy for Gaga :kara: of course she cares about critics

It actually blows my mind that BTW only got a 71.  But it looks like it was dragged down but some review giving it a 0. That type of outright hating should not be allowed to be included.

Its back to 84, LA times revised its score

Seriously? I didn't know they could amend scores. I've heard of critics regretting a score further down the line but they didn't change it. There were critics saying they regretted their scores for Taylor's album but didn't change it.

It would totally get into the 80's now, no question (Joanne would've too). The world just wasn't ready for the sounds she delivered on that album and critics were harsher back then, especially on female popstars. Even Beyonce didn't have the respect she has now back then (her album released the same year only got 73, unthinkable for her to get a score that low now) and people were so blinded by Gaga's spectacle that they weren't willing to give her a fair chance. NME had the nerve to give it a 8/10 and months later ranked it #1 on their list of most pretentious albums of all time, I remember how people called them such hypocrites and posers for doing that and pointed out how their year-end lists usually end up a bit different to how they reviewed albums at the time. I'd like to think critics are a bit more consistent now.

Apparently the same critic who gave Chromatica an 80, called Mayhem a way better album, but gave it an 80 too. A Fan emailed them and they bumped Mayhem to a 90

I was already lurking here back in the day and remember Born This Way was also HEAVILY criticized then for being “generic” “dated”, too many fillers, sounds unfinished, you name it.

but let’s not focus on the negativity, it’s always been the case where people feel like they can judge and “review” Gaga’s albums in one listen and call it a day when it’s so not the case.

I remember all the criticism. It’s so impossible to please everyone,as each person always judges based on their own personal expectations and preferences.  But I love that I think BTW has been the most redeemed of all her albums because I think most fans embrace it now.
