Bro, Gaga may not be the most experimental artist out there, but she's delved into so many genres and styles with her own flair over the last 2 decades and even on MAYHEM.

Plus she's stated many times now about the pressures to constantly reinvent herself from the music industry.

Mayhem is a love letter to industrial, rock, dark pop, edmic, funk, disco, electro clash, R&B, Salsa etc.

All her favourites.

Not the salsa sneak 😭

I love it the more and more I listen to it. I like how it really switches up genre wise which makes most of the songs have there own moment to shine.

I'm always surprised as I caught myself realizing once Blade of Grass starts that I'm already at the end of the album.

The only meh factor for me is the Blade of Grass intro her vocal enunciation makes it hard to get into the song but after that the songs ok I just wish as a Balad it had more of a speechless approach (I guess more raw vocals on BoG then the polished vocal of Speechless) it'll probably grow on me

I'd want Killah as a single but I'm also really getting more into Vanish Into You and could absolutely see it being a summer single.

The albums production is immaculate and I'm going to need to see more albums like this.

My honest thought is that album is so lovely and full of love, I'm actually trying not to overplay it cause I want the rush of listening to it to last longer. :firega:

There isn't a bad song, I absolutely love HBDUWM from the start. The only song I'm ambivalent to is Blade of Grass. Everything else is immaculate.

My only more controversial takes on MAYHEM are: 1. I'm glad she kept Can't Stop the High and Kill for Love as bonus tracks. At 14 tracks it's the perfect length, no filler, just like BTW standard.
2. I'm glad she didn't go for the Perfect Celebrity/Can't Stop the High sound all across the album. It'd have easily become my least favourite of her records. I don't really vibe with these two songs. I love the funky groovy disco side of the record on songs like Killah, Zombieboy, Don't Call Tonight, Kill for Love and Shadow of a Man. :flutter:

It's a great album, everything beside HBDUWM (sorry I still can't stand it) is amazing. My favourites are Disease, Abracadabra, Zombieboy, Killah, Perfect Celebrity, LoveDrug and Shadow of a Man. It's true that it does get a little slower towards the end but the ballads are still nice, though I don't fully enjoy the lyrics on The Beast.

I still think we were baited a bit. Yes she did say it was chaotic and that it would change after a few tracks, but then why market it as a dark, gothic, heavy, industrial and underground album? She could have used a 70s inspired outfit at least once and we would have gotten a better idea. Every outfit and promo picture is dark (even Manson-like) and a lot of the outfits leaned into gothic and witchy vibes when I don't think that's present at all in the album besides maybe Abracadabra technically being a spell. Even the album cover is black and white with a heavy-metal like font which only really fits Disease and Perfect Celebrity (kind of). It's still a grest album with wonderful production, I just feel like the marketing team thought we wouldn't eat it up if they leaned into the 70s-80s vibe from the start.
