Sarah H 3,627
No. I love Abra but I'm happy with what we got.
Dona 123
Yes the only song that even matches the era aesthetic is Disease... Over half the album is so forgettable, Chromatica looks epic and iconic in comparison. 2
Guest
so interresting. the album is not that easy to digest and is a grower. she brough a lot of the old gaga but not the one you'd expect. the younger voice. the nasty nasal voice. she stepped up the game. and once again, people sleep on the music in itself. how her voice sounds so tasty and the sounds are also so mature. like analog gear, etc. sleak mixing and mastering... The shape is like... traditional, but the execution scream perfection, fresh and new. definitely a grower in so many ways. my sole big regret : there's a song starting with cherleading and it's not working as an intro sound for me (it works inside the song but i was hating it at first / i think it's zombie boy though i love the chorus) and also : WHERE IS THE GRUNGE ? I wanted a grunge gaga guitar at some point. idk i don't see the grunge but it's ok love... ps : who else thinks Lovedrug is a stand out ???? melon 3,586
so interesting reading through this, I adore this album and the two bonus tracks elevate it I think Frankensteined should have been on the album as another “pure” dark pop Gaga song - holding out for her to do this with a deluxe version. Sounds like this song would have really fit the vibe of the first half and also satisfied the fans who can never be satisfied because she’ll never make TFM again show me to me please
tlittlemonster 1,489
Imo Garden of Eden and Zombieboy are amazing and make up for the lack of more dark pop bangers like Abra But yeah I feel like generally most LMs had different expectations Edited March 8 by tlittlemonster
kimeow 219
not necessarily Abra-style songs, but i was expecting the album to go harder in general. more crazy screaming vocals, more hard-hitting beats, more uptempo. i love the album we got though, a lot of Rockga in there and thats something i've craved for years. Perfect Celebrity and LoveDrug just hit the spot for me. i still dream of her doing a project that goes off on the dark industrial, metal, noise rock, non-commercial vibes. something HEALTH inspired. just listen to this beat y'all

dubstep111 664
I agree. I wish I hadn’t heard disease and abra before because I was let down hard. Garden of Eden was so good then it just went down hill imo. Most of the album reminded me of Michael Jackson stuff not a fan. Thank god I got garden of Eden atleast.

Guest
I think we have to acknowledge that Gaga is afterall a commercial POP artist who is known to be very versatile but at the end of the day there are millions of Dollars dependent on whether or not a new solo album of hers is going to amaze the masses. Especially in this day and age where we see streaming services openly support right wing governments I feel like it must come to no suprise that also her label and the executives behind her do no other than make sure she is getting out there selling the record. I don't know, for my part I did not expect anything but I definitely hoped that the album offers more space for her 'nothing else matters' approach and just goes kickass with whatever direction she chose. Disease already showed me that she'll stay in the commercial lane and I guess the rest of the album followed that path. It's not really the sound of it all or specific songs, it's just the vibe and the soul of the album that screams too commercial to me and standardized pop - as it already appeared with Chromatica too imo. I guess Joanne was in its way acceptable for me because it was a 180 turn to what she's done before and a complete reinvention of what she was known for. It's fun that she's self referencing her old eras in this record and playing with it to the point it provides an own cosmos but it simply lacks a sort of spirit that has an unconventional aspect to it which the eras pre Chromatica definitely had. Afterall such unconventionality is what sets Gaga apart from other A listers imo. The fact that she is not following the path everyone else goes. I just hoped that an album called 'Mayhem' stepped more into that aspect and saw that the strength lies in its individuality instead of an production that so clearly follows trends right now in music that have been already played by other pop acts
Mother of Puppies 36,415
I'm honest... I did hope we would get 1-2 more songs like Abra & Disease, meaning hard hitting dancy EDM/industrial Dark Gaga pop... this woman always surprises me in the best possible way... I didn't have all these Disco 80s inspired songs on my Bingo card, but I'm here for it I think this album is a big grower I really like it a lot!
