In all fairness to Gaga, Taylor’s been reheating CHVRCHES, Lorde, and HAIM’s nachos with this sound for about a decade, so Gaga can have a bite too

I love this song because I love Taylor, it reminds me of both Gorgeous and Hits Different (HBDUWM chorus).

I’m sorry, but this isn’t Gaga taking a page from TS, but rather her being inapired by her favorite music and drawing heavily from the music of her youth and doing what she wants to.

To me this is pure 80’s bliss (very Walk the Moon, who base their sound off 80’s music) and together with SotM and DCT this is the highlight of the album.

To each their own - we can all agree to disagree - but I won’t take it silently when Taylor Swift is being thrown into the mix when she has nothing to do with Gaga and her inspiration. Period.

edit: here’s Yazoo’s ‘Only You’ - if that wasn’t her main inspiration for HBDUWM then I don’t know

As a huge Yaz fan, it’s pretty clear that the lyricism, melodic phrasing, and much of the production are far more influenced by Rep era TS than Yaz (genuinely wish it was more Yaz influenced, but the sample is fun)

I don't hear TS in this at all. I think a lot of haters here just don't get the reference because you haven't heard the original song she's paying tribute to. I could see this smashing with the GP. I kind of want her to subvert everyone's expectations with all the dark imagery and suddenly come out with a super accessible mainstream bubblegum pop hit.

Not my favorite in terms of being slayed by hearing it :laughga:

But still a great song, and I looove that it samples one of my favorite songs ever, Only You :sara:

Huge Yaz fan: the lyrics, melodic structure, instrumental, and rhythmic phrasing are far closer to Midnights or Rep era TS than Yaz. It’s 80s synth pop influenced, yes, but 80s synth pop by way of TSwift.

I thought DWAS would be my least liked song on this album but then this song came on. :saladga:

Again, you’re being pretty willfully ignorant if you don’t hear Rep/Midnights era TS, but I’ll be more than glad to watch you eat your words once the AI edits start coming out.

Wait, so it has the same tropical house influence/trap drums from Gorgeous by Taylor Swift?

I’m just asking since I still need to wait around 6 hours to listen to Mayhem.
