The more I hear about Mayhem, the more I feel like it is unintentionally ARTPOP’s older sister. 
The way she talks about how both albums are a reflection of her as an artist. 

I’m so glad someone else felt the whole sister album thing! It’s like, ARTPOP was at a dark time of her life and was so colourful and vibrant and now we’re on the other end with shattered black and whites but in such a bright time. I’m so excited to hear artrpop’s goth sister go off

I think she looks at every album through a specific lense, and feels they are associated with a specific subgenre with can also be a vibe instead of a sound, but that this time she does not want to constrict herself to one subgenre. I think she speaks self-confident about both ARTPOP and Joanne, while less so for Chromatica as she is struggling to find words to describe it. Whether this means she values vibe over sound, - maybe - but it is opaque guessing.

The fact that they said Perfect Celebrity is the hardest song on the record is insane cause how much harder and angrier than Disease can a song get??? And she then said Can’t Stop The High goes even harder than Perfect Celebrity like omg bring the oxygen tank cause I’m about the collapse!!! 
 

I also love that she confirmed too that Garden Of Eden is indeed a 2000s throwback! Idk about you guys but I prefer a little bit of variety on a project, like imagine having all songs fall in line with Abracadabra or Disease, like how would those even standout anymore if all of them sound alike? I think that’s where Chromatica lost me a little, overall it had the same flavor, something she herself said that with that album she found a sound and chose it as the direction for the entire project. There’s nothing wrong with that but for me I appreciate a bit more diversity and for each song to have it’s own little moment on the record rather than blend în seamlessly.
 

To me, from the snippets we heard so far all songs sound different yet somehow work so well together. I have a good feeling about this record babes!!!
