NewUsername 11,088
I loved this interview and by all the bits we're getting these last weeks, we're getting more insight in how Mayhem was created and what the concept of the album is. I can't help but feel that I have some difficulties wrapping my head around it, though. It might be because we haven't heard the album in full yet and that I'll understand it more then. Of course Gaga is always very poetic and romantic -which I also love- and won't always explicitly say what an album is about, but -at least to me- the concept isn't as clear as with her other albums. Is this because of what I already said above? Am I misunderstanding or maybe even not understanding some things? Or maybe because the concept of "chaos" and "all the parts of my identity and artistry" is de facto more complex and less palpable than eg. the dark side of fame, family, trauma etc.? Is it a combination of all of this? I was just wondering if anyone else has these same thoughts and/or if anyone can make it clearer to me. Anyway, this all doesn't take away that I absolutely love what we heard so far and that I'm super excited about this new journey and can't wait to discover Mayhem  1

I guess it all sums up in the part where she said she wanted to make an effort with Mayhem on not wanting "to put on an outfit" to the album as she did with previous projects. I think that also translates into the concept: MAYHEM may be the first one where she 100% focused on the vibe-sound instead of linking an instant idea to it. And I love that Edited 17 hours ago by elegidadedios
ceminay 761
She sounds so happy compared to the same interview 5 years ago for Chromatica. I also had the urge to cry when right before she started crying. That question would bring out a lot of emotions for most people, especially for someone with a life like hers. 4

And in practical terms it's kind if like shes not only one thing, but she as a person bas so many sides and thar theres a bit of a battle between Gaga and Stephanie. Like i often feel like that, cause I deal with different versions of myself. The family self, work self, the artist self, the friend self and the boyfriend self cause you kind kf can't be the same person with everyone and that's kind of also what she brought to the album I think

(Lady Gaga in 22:00 - 23:00, Interview)  She does value the „vibe/feeling“ over the sound, right? At least that was what I got from her..  but this whole thing felt so special. I’ll 100% will tie my first listen to the image of her sitting in that bar, having a blast with her friends before this larger than life person took off. In these last couple minutes she seemed more vulnerable and reflective of herself than the entire Joanne era - which isn’t a dig, just the point of reference she chose herself as being „the most raw, closest to Stefanie“. Can’t wait for the album, I already see me ugly cry start to finish

Now that she's found love, success, health, etc. she was able to write about her honest life and self. It's definitely broad, but thus is her human experience. She's screaming at herself in The Beast, mocking herself and celebrity in Perfect Celebrity, finding true love in Blad of Grass, etc. It's all the facets of who she REALLY is having had reflected on 20 years of being "Lady Gaga."  5 4
ModernEcstasy 8,695
Love this interview. She seems  so chill and candid with him. The more I hear about Mayhem, the more I feel like it is unintentionally ARTPOP’s older sister. The way she talks about how both albums are a reflection of her as an artist.
