Roughhouse Dandy 13,494
It's a killer medley of songs. Taking from the best of each adaption! Love that. Cynthia slayed it. So cute to see Ariana off to the side smiling at her friend devouring. Hope Ari is doin okay 💜 Now I need to see Cynthia lead a full production of The Wiz. Idc if Dorothy is in her 30/40's if it's her. This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.
Cavadour 2,701
Beautiful voices, yes. But indigestible vocal ornementation and melisma overdose. Late to the party but I got a diamond heart

Alfonso 1,558
They were great! But as others mentioned, I was really disappointed by the lack of wicked songs and production. We deserved a long medley with and not these old songs. The Oscars this year felt even more boring and flat than they usually do.

Yeah but Wicked (as in, the book) isn't a remake of The Wizard of Oz. It's a prequel/midquel to the first L Frank Baum novel with some 1939 retcons sprinkled in (mainly just the green skin and Glinda/Locasta merge) So it feels egregious that this film has leaned so far into 1939 nostalgia, when rights-wise they have 0 correlation. You have the title card, the costume design (especially Glinda), and even parts of the script - Ariana has said that she and Cynthia had to stop the writers from replacing a fan favorite line ("The wizard will see you now") with the "Who rang that bell" gag from 1939. And then you have interviews talking extensively about 1939 references, this Oscars performance where they devoted airtime & costuming to 1939, etc. Combine that with other issues they had in production, like briefly trying to rework Popular as a hip-hop song, and it just feels like the crew don't fully believe in Wicked as a story that can stand on its own.
