Red 97,944
With a new Lady Gaga era, they came: the threads asking us to rank Gaga's music; rank the albums, rank the lead singles... This time they put me in a deep state of reflection. And I reached a sad conclusion. Please listen and don't judge, I am a child of Gaga just like you. Spoiler I- Spoiler ARTPOP is my least favorite album And I didn't want it to be this way It's not that I don't like it, I just think the other ones are better I still like it. I wanted to like it more, I wanted to love it. But it is what it is. Please forgive my sins. If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating. 5 1 4

clownery 6,162
I can't listen to ARTPOP either, I was 13 dealing with major depression, getting bullied, severe agoraphobia, also the first time I listened to it I had a panic attack. Truly times I don't want to remember. 4 7
elegidadedios 1,925
Why would you feel bad about it! We stan a talented artist whose discography embrace multiple genres and sounds. When Joanne came out I used to like it way more than ARTPOP even several years after. Many years ago, tho, I ended up appreciating again more and more ARTPOP til I consider it one of my favorite projects from her, whereas I barely listen to Joanne now (highlighting the HUGE importance of that album in her career, nevertheless). And that's okay Edit - side note, I think I didn't rank my fav albums so there I go Born This Way, ARTPOP, Chromatica, The Fame, The Fame Monster, Joanne MAYHEM is a huge contender to take the #1 spot Edited February 28 by elegidadedios

meltedplastic 194
I was a giant fan up until that album. At the time I thought it was really uninspired. I felt the music really lacked the perspective and passion her previous work did. It was a big let down after BTW. I think the Swinefest live performances were better than the final versions. Very messy era, she was clearly going through it. I can understand why she said she doesn't remember it. Retrospectively, I like it a lot now, I like it more than Joanne and Chromatica - but it is a big ole mess!

Hydrangea 6,181
Fartpoop definitely isn’t for everyone and it was honestly kind of a mess and at a really manic/messy time of gaga’s life and career. I love it but even I’ll admit sometimes I’m like when I think about the purchased pre made productions or the whole dwuw mess and any of the other myriad issues Put your paws all over me

It used to be my second least favorite but now that I stopped to re-analyze according to my current taste, The Fame (the former least favorite) is just better in any aspect If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating. Quartz 12,511
I mean, real. Out of her solo projects, ARTPOP really was the weakest. No tea, no shade. Swine is a mess. At least we got Do What U Want but even that wouldn't put this album over Joanne. Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

Gorehound 4,649
It all boils down to a matter of preference doesn't it. I personally love hard fast electronic music, heavy metal, rave and alt genres so ARTPOP is right up my street, but on the other hand I find Joanne very underwhelming and boring but others love it so But I'm the first to agree that there are parts of ARTPOP where the music really is not it, or certain distasteful creative decisions etc,. but she was going through a really rough time in her career, and from everything we've ever learned about the album it was a nightmare for her to make, getting a lot of interference from the label and difficult producers so the final product was not what she originally wanted. But there are still moments of genius on that album and the passion there is palpable and has to be admired. And I think she did very well considering everything that happened. She wanted us to rave. It's funny cuz when ARTPOP came out I was also going through a rly rough time, living in London as a student battling with drug addiction and in with a sketchy crowd so ARTPOP really resonated with me. Unfortunately the public and critics were already growing hostile towards her so I think she was kinda doomed no matter what she did, ARTPOP or not. Her shtick was up and it was time for a reinvention. I know it's not a great album, but I can't help but thoroughly enjoy it every time. It's the portrait of a girl spiralling out of control towards a total breakdown and I find it very poignant. It remains an infamous pillar of her discography. Honestly I could write several books about ARTPOP Edited February 28 by Gorehound I'm fine, Ta 6
