God, they've hit a new low when they're singing songs that aren't from movies just to fill time. Emelia Perez was clearly identified as being a mistake months ago and they've been scrambling to not have songs from it performed to not be completely shown up for their terrible misjudgement of its quality as a musical. But couldn't they have got a previous best original song winner to sing? Or a bunch of them in a greatest Oscar hits medley? Have it make a bit of sense? Rather bummed they're not performing El Mal though. To hear that performed live, complete with off-key vocals and no vocal correction would be pure schadenfreude.

Not always. There’s the in memoriam section and the odd musical tribute, like what Gaga did with Sound of Music.
