Andrew Watt confirms DWAS was always intended for Gaga album

It makes a bit more sense to me that Die With A Smile was simply a standalone single that ended up getting included on the album because of it’s massive success and not a bad thing at all, it’s marketing. 

We have yet to listen to the rest of Mayhem and I’m pretty sure there’s going to be a lot of songs that sound nothing like Disease and Abracadabra. Just from the “Girlfriend” snippet and the Zombieboy from Disease music video, there seems to be some type of A Star Is Born / Die With A Smile type of stuff in there. I could be wrong and maybe understand once they’re all out. 

No one here knows what the process was so if Die With A Smile was recorded during the Mayhem sessions , later released as a standalone because it started as Bruno’s and Gaga finished it and she didn’t think it fit the album, later decided to include it again etc. whatever the process was we still get this amazing song and collaboration on it. 

And honestly I’ve been listening to Die With A Smile more now that it’s right after Disease and Abracadabra. Like it’s a nice way to end the album.

My theory is that it is absolutely from the MAYHEM session, but maybe there was a period of time where they weren’t 100% sure about the tracklist yet, so when Gaga said “while you wait for LG7” it left it up in the air where the song would end up. She could have meant “while you wait for the album, here’s a little teaser of it”

She didn’t sell herself out and I don’t know what you mean by “again” because when has she ever? We haven't even heard the whole album so I don’t get all this complaining about how it doesn’t fit the album. But the way I see it, it truly will fit. She has an album about all this drama and chaos in her life, all these inner battles with herself. Lyrical references to “a gothic dream.” Then the album ends with “I just woke up from a dream” and she finally finds peace and dies with a smile. All the mayhem and chaos ends with peace. Plus she’s so in love with Michael, why not represent that on the album? He was such a constant in the creative process of the album, so closing the album with a dedication to him is pretty perfect. This is GAGA we’re talking about, not some sellout who’s stream-crazy. If DWAS didn’t fit, it wouldn’t be on the album, period.

I agree. The only difference is that Gaga did not use time to explain that that song would be a stand alone song, specifically will not be part of her next album.

Then suddenly she says it was the missing song, and here we have Watt saying it "was from the start planned to be on LG7".

I'm not mad, it's fine, but that's why some of us are reacting and being skeptical.
