Katy Perry's manager talks about negativity during release of 143

Katy Perry went back to the studio to create an album from “a place of love” and released 143 last September, but that sentiment wasn’t reciprocated by a number of critics whose mixed reviews, her team felt, were mean-spirited.

That was a difficult period for all of us,” Jensen admitted. “Lots of negativity, lots of hatred out there towards her.

Even during such dark times, Perry carried on and performed last September at the Australian Football League Grand Final before 100k which was showing fans that she’s still standing.

“She put on an amazing show,” said Paul Dainty, president and CEO of TEG Dainty in Australia. “I was there, and the vibe was incredible.”
Perry’s set at what is essentially Australia’s Super Bowl included a number of media appearances, which led to her selling-out 13 Australian dates and built an anticipation that’s caught on around the world.

“What happens anywhere in the world becomes visual for everyone,” Dainty said. “We started with eight arenas, and now we’re at 13, and I’m hoping to add more. It’s pretty amazing.”

Tickets for the Australian shows flew during onsale, giving Perry and her team the reassurance they sought after a tepid response to 143.
“The proof in the pudding is ticket sales,” Jensen said. “… I started crying because I was so excited. I told Katy, ‘This is what really matters. People love you. They want to see you. Fvck those other people who are the haters, who just do what they do to try to get to you.’”

We’re not going to give in to the hatred; we’re not going to give into the negativity,” he added. “We’re going to forge forward.”

“She wanted to go out and play for the audience that is not able to come and travel to Las Vegas,” Steve Jensen (Katy's co -manager) said. “Rather than have the audience come to her, she wanted to go to the audience. Her foundation is music, and it will always be her foundation. It will always be what she goes back to.”

It’s that message of love and empowerment that Perry hopes to spread with her “Lifetimes Tour.” The tour’s title shares the same name as her latest album’s second single, while also celebrating the artist’s incredible “lifetime of music so far.” “I don’t take anything for granted, and I am appreciative of the fact that this is still my job,” Perry said.

It's weird how much hate she gets honestly. I can't believe I'm excited to see her in August...but I'm not learning any of the 143 songs, sorry :kry:

Well, she did release a female empowerment song with an alleged sexual abuser. It was bound to catch controversy

playing the victim card and blaming everyone else but Katy's decision to work with a rapist and they didn't even mention the real reason for the criticism :Cautious:

Many pop stans were ready for her return until they learned about Luke's involvement in the album.

what a load of old sh*t, I'm so tired of reading "this album is about love and empowerment!" when the only person being empowered is the pervert producer

Born This Way is an album about love and empowerment. love is daring and scary and loud and fulfilling, not shallow and hollow and thoughtless

at the end of the day, a cheap concert ticket is a cheap concert ticket but whatever makes them feel better i guess...

mother, what must i do?

Then don't support the song and even herself if you don't want to (just like I did), but was it really necessary to express out loud so much hate towards her? I highly doubt all the people that spent time writing bad things on socials were really concerned about it. It was more of a seek of attention case for me at least and that's just wrong (just like her working with that rat)

Hydrangea

Nothing says loving and empowering women like working with a known sex offender who treats women like garbage. It’s the constant trying to play the victim card and not addressing the obvious mistake for me. If she owned up and said “yeah my bad” I would have at least a shred of respect for that, but as it stands it’s let’s just point the finger at anyone but herself

Trying so hard to not "what about" with the fact that Gaga worked with a known rapist, a predator, and she has a predator's face tattooed on her back...guess I did it anyway though but I'm not sticking around to argue about it :traumatica: just "glass houses and stones" or whatever.

Idk, I cut Katy slack. Luke's just a producer, not her bestie, not her idol. Just a tool to be used to make (what she thought would be) hits.

I don't exactly look to Katy Perry for moral guidance so idc what she does :icant:

I personally never wrote anything bad about Katy when all that happened, I even enjoyed Lifetimes a few times on Spotify. But they knew she would get negative feedback when they made and planned to release Women’s World.
