Moreover, big hits have been boosted by live performances. such as APT, Mileys' "I just won my first grammy", Taylor's Cruel Summer following the live performances at the Era Tour. And Gaga is an estabilshed act, she does not need to 'promote the artist', she is not an indie singer with a following of a 100 people total. She just does not seem to want to perform Mayhem's songs at talk shows. This will affect the commercial performance of the songs, especially for an act like Gaga, who has always been promo sensitive as her performance were amazing. She does not care, it seems; that's fine, but that's the reason, not the irrelevance of live performances for music consumption 1

ARTCHAOS 1,683
With Disease it was definitely more confusing but seeing Abracadabra rollout and the upcoming shows it's clear to me that she's going for big events impact. Releasing Abracadabra during Grammy nigh was genius, and I trust Parris can help her put a big show for Coachella and Copacabana set (California Dreaming instead of DWAS on the grammys was definitely a timing issue tho) I don't expect release week to be so extra, maybe club mayhem listening party next week or another mv on release date, abracadabra mastercard fan video could make the waiting easier in the meanwhile, but can tell they're saving the performances for April and May, and tour announcement around those dates

I also think she's preparing to do something like SNL. She's cooking, constantly. Very much this. 4SeasonsInADay 67
To be honest I don't really consider an era as truly beginning until the album is out. I don't want press interviews teasing what something is going to be or little snippets of things. Few weeks out now. Then it will be a year plus of whatever we're getting. Coachella, Rio, Tour, Red Carpet looks, Award Shows (fingers crossed performances and trophies).

Delulu Rogers 7,088
I don’t think there is a strategy in place. She’ll do a couple of big gigs and call it a day. It’s sad and frustrating but not unexpected. It’s crazy to me how some ppl are saying that she’s using this time to gain respect for her as a singer/person as if we didn’t have 10 years of Joanne, ASIB, jazz, covers and tributes. The era stated technically 6 months ago and we don’t have a single proper performance of any songs released so far. It shouldn’t matter what Beyoncé does or how effective live performances are these days (still extremely effective btw). She should do it for the art and for the experience. Pop dance performances can gain her just as much respect as sitting at the piano singing shallow for the millionth time 3
GreenedDreamer 26
I think she has something planned, but she's already got a ton of other performances to start the year with... The Grammys, Superbowl, AND SNL 50 just happened within a month or something..... FREE MY MIND, ARTPOP.
hamartia 226
I've seen ppl say this before but it bears repeating: music promotion is just not the same as it was in the 2010s. I think it was Perrie Edwards who made a tiktok in repsonse to her fans telling her to ~promote the damn album~ where she basically said there is nowhere to promote anymore. Labels are not interested in late night gigs and they want artists to make tiktoks and try to make their songs viral. Obviously Gaga has more clout (noah fence Perrie Edwards stans lol) but she's still at the whim of record label executives and where they want to put "their" money. Online content is what people are watching now instead of cable TV, so that's what she's booking. I don't like it either but it is what it is. It was so incredible to be a part of the Gagaverse in the 2010s and to watch her conquer the world one sequin at a time () but our little stan hearts need to accept that that time is over. It's not Gaga's fault or proof that she secretly doesn't care about music anymore; it's just a different world now. I get the disappointment, but I think saving live performances for Coachella/Gagacabana makes sense from an artistic perspective, and it's probably more creatively fulfilling than doing the same song and dance on a million late night shows. 4 1 1
Kubi 1,115
Like @PartySick said, putting out music for us to listen to. Haha. I literally was going to write the same thing when I then saw their comment. It all feels very organic which makes me think this album is full of some very good music. they call me angela vidal
Obobo 2,770
7 hours ago, newtti said: I'm sorry, but can we stop being delusional about things like 'she is promoting Lady Gaga to get respect' and 'people use TikTok now'? Live performances are still a driving force for sales/streams, as APT live has clearly shown recently. The fact that you’re using APT as an example... Let’s be real — Kpop stars are trending and have the young global fanbase to actually make the performances worth it. They’re more successful than any of the new American “it girl” artists. That’s why lot of American tv shows have all of them perform since their fanbases will 100% get them those views. You’re right that performances are a driving force but TikTok IS the main force for labels to go “hey is it worth it to push promo for this song?”. I remember reading in interview of a music exec saying they prioritize short form social content and if that goes well they’ll push a music video and if that goes well, they push performances. People don’t watch TV everyday and randomly see a performances like they did 10 years ago. Performances on events like The Grammys or big music festivals make sense since those target a broader audience but nobody other than the core fans are tuning in for tv performances.
