You're not wrong to bring this stuff up because a huge political talking this past election was the "price of eggs," among other things, but I don't think his supporters care that much. He's been in the political sphere for the past 10 years. At this point, people know what they're getting with him. Idk, maybe I'm being super pessimistic, but I think we have to accept the fact that talking points like this aren't going to work anymore. It's all about the theatre and wanting to come across as someone who's "for the working class." It's not about results or actually making things better; it's about feeling like you're supporting someone who's campaigning on doing so. Even if eggs cost $24.99, his supporters will find a way to excuse it. Honestly I agree with you that his supporters wont care (at least not until things get much much worse). But for the rest of us, a bit of sarcasm and brevity in response to the insane is a very good way of managing some degree of sanity.
