a lot of stuff companies have been doing as of late has been for PR points/virtue signaling, but seeing as the trump campaign highjacked USA tiktok and put that message saying that they thank trump; its becoming more evident than ever that big tech is slowly being bought out and muzzled by the republican party.

i live in Canada and my feeds would be saturated regularly with right-wing outlets that I have not once shown interest in or interacted with. its very orwellian.

I'm personally boycotting any company that is bending the knee to Trump as much as I can.Some things are difficult to boycott but I try my best. 

One day, hopefully soon, when these people are no longer in power we will remember what they've done.

It means they will try to win the public over with performative actions but hopefully people don’t fall for it. 

The pendulum can’t be stopped from swinging back unless by force.

So either it swings back indefinitely, in which case there will be more bad times even after the good times, or it won't, in which case there's the possibility that it stops swinging now, so there won't be any good times in the future. One of the two.

Well, not really.

Progress is undeniable. The hypothetical pendulum swings in the proper direction then we backslide a bit but then we recover and go farther than we did before.

It's two steps forward, one step back. We're currently taking a step back.

I don't think progress is undeniable. One has to make it so. It could be in the long run, yes, but how much time do we have before the planet bursts into flames, or the people are just too poor to survive?

Well, ok, social progress is undeniable.

Capitalism is too powerful for us to stop 'cause we won't organize against it despite it choking the life out of us and our planet.

But racial equity and queer rights can't be stopped, they can only hit fat, orange speed bumps. That's what I meant.

On the contrary, I think social progress is only possible with economic progress and material abundance for everybody. It isn't possible by itself. Now the question for me is, can capitalism provide us with that material incentive? I don't think so.
