PoshLife 17,006 Posted February 7, 2025 Share Posted February 7, 2025 I thought that guy's column was awful for a lot of reasons, and I think it's fair to say Hollywood Reporter shouldn't have published it simply because it was filled with unproductive personal attacks and, in my view, intentionally misconstrued what Chappell was saying (she said labels should offer insurance, not be insurance companies processing claims - come on, man). It did not add constructively to the conversation. It didn't say anything interesting or intellectual about the topic. It was literally just a hit piece. But, I don't think you can say they 'disguised it as critical journalism.' It says in the headline that it's a 'Guest Column.' Unless they added that in after Halsey's story, I think they made it sufficiently clear that it was an opinion piece and not an article. I know that's only one part of Halsey's larger point, but I bristle at it cuz we're in an age of misinformation already and I think publications should make it clear what's hard news and what isn't - and HR did.
