sagybp 146
I'm looking for factual information on how long it typically takes to create a music video—not just the actual filming but also the rehearsals and preparation beforehand (excluding post-production). I understand that the timeline can vary significantly, from large-scale productions that resemble short films (e.g., G.U.Y., Marry The Night) to more straightforward videos like Abracadabra. However, I’d love to get a general idea of the time frame involved. Are we talking about a few days of shooting, or does the process usually take weeks? I've searched through various interviews and articles about Gaga’s music videos but haven't found anything concrete. Does anyone recall an interview or a reliable source that discusses this, specifically in relation to Gaga’s MVs? 1
A Very Gaga Holida 21,886
It’s hard to tell, all music videos are different ; some are spontaneous while some are hyper planned I imagine Joanne took two or three days from the beginning to the end, while I’d imagine Abra took about three weeks and Judas three months, but nothing concrete, sorry Joanne: shot on a Nokia by Christian CariNO and improvised by Gaga, and edited in an hour and a half Abra: negociations with CBS for the TV spot and Mastercard for the financial help/commercial agreement, dance rehearsals of a couple days, filming for a day and editing of a couple days too Judas: they had to book the movie studio AND the road, build an entire village, hire professional comedians, buy loads of water etc. and the shooting probably lasted between two and three days Edited 8 hours ago by A Very Gaga Holida
TimotheeChalamet 5,218
the average for elaborate music videos is 1-2 months minimum, with 2-7 days of actual shooting Edited 8 hours ago by TimotheeChalamet 2
darkgaga 3,795
I think the actual shoots for vids like disease, abracadabra, applause are all just one day. Especially all her last vids since they also have not that many outfits, where I think for example BR might have taken multiple days, even though the length is comparable. If I recall correctly GUY took 3 days, or at least that is the time they had in the castle 1
Defmix100 6,080
I would guess Abracadabra took 1-2 days to shoot, I think I remember 3 days being mentioned for Telephone but that is insanely quick for that amount of setups

They had so many different shots that it takes a lot of time to film and edit + it had CGI too for the set walls. Don't think they built that Judas set just for the video, wasn't it a location or a movie set? However, pre-production and post-production take a lot of time for such videos. Yeah it's a Universal studios set: A lot of her music video's are filmed on existing sets. I remember recognizing the 911 car accident set while watching WandaVision. And the Poker Face mansion is also used in Terminator And on the opposite end, something like Rain On Me is almost completely green screen, which requires a lot of post-production. Wow Terminator 2 is one of my favourite films and I never knew Dyson's house was the Poker Face house!
