SlaeUrAnus 15,653
I never have ‘good’ feelings (success wise) for Gaga’s solo singles anymore. Obviously doesn’t bother me considering she’s 17 years into her career, but I have a really good feeling about this one. It’s got everything that made people fall in love with Gaga in the first place so it’s no wonder streams are increasing. Hopefully it’s added high on New Music Friday and a couple of performances and we’re in for a smash. Disease is the best (negative) example of it when and the most recent but i can go back at ARTPOP times and this would be even more prominent. Even if she is totally a gay icon and i am not even debating it. Disease isn't comparable, especially in contrast to DWAS and Abra for a couple reasons. Abra was put in front of 15.4 million people during the Grammys and has since had heavy playlisting. DWAS was pushed hard across the world and also has the help of Bruno, in addition to heavy playlisting. Disease didn't even get physicals and her music video was hardly promoted. Disease was the subject of a few YouTube videos and that's it. It was also heavily backseated in order to keep DWAS promoted in hopes of getting a #1. If you go on YouTube and look at the song as a sound, you'll see that the most popular videos with the song are LGBT people. Most of Gaga's core fanbase is the gay community. There's nothing wrong with that. But an artist's success doesn't just come from an artist's talent, it comes from the core fanbase. That's why new artists regularly appear and disappear and we get "one hit wonders". That's why Nicki Minaj can still sell 300k first week. It's what Taylor used to get where she is now. It's why Katy can't chart anymore. An artist's long term success is a measure of how engaged the artist was in cultivating a relationship with casuals to turn them into hardcore fans. 1
OMF 3,243
The fact Abracadabra is number one on Apple Music in charts, and cities, around the world or high up there means it’s already a hit. It’s almost like it took DWAS’s run and is replacing it on charts! How much it will continue time will tell or if it will go 1# on the US billboard charts.
