Lady Gaga explains why she called LG7 Mayhem

MAYHEM tells us that she returned to reality by turning pain into acceptance. What existed in her in suffering tries to understand and heal herself, to take care of old Gaga.

In Chromatica it was a dance through the pain, but it wasn't like it was healing it, it was just some form of a little escape to forget about old Gaga.

Isn't this basically Chromatica? Dancing through the pain / making something light out of darkness and past pain? The only difference is MAYHEM is rooted in reality (despite trying to escape from it through dance), whilst Chromatica is literally escaping reality by dancing on a made-up planet.

This album seems more about embracing the shadow self, very Carl Jung. Chromatica seems to be more of a healing journey towards being able to get to the point where she's at in Mayhem

I have posted about this before and thought of it! Chromatica and MAYHEM were meant to be related and I think this album was an extension of Chromatica- whether that also include ideas and ways to deliver the album/era without covid interrupting it.

I LOVE how you note MAYHEM is rooted in reality, something I never considered! It makes so much sense when thinking of what we have heard so far/what she has said about the album.

I also thought the theme was similar, but she’s kinda dealing with it in a more confrontational way now. It is a thread that’s running through her whole discography tho. « Just dance, gonna be ok. »

Also interesting to notice the concept of brokenness and putting the pieces back together being present in the lyrics of Happy Mistake.
