chromaticainmyhead 6,407
NYT already writing this win will evoke long conversations but I'm not really sure why.. is it because of the genre discussion? Personally I'd like to have seen the win go to brat just because it was clearly a societal phenomenon an album rarely achieves especially amongst young people (which makes it even more politically important imo) fan-tas-tique, chic, freak, slaaaay 4

Since her career started about 26 years ago, Beyoncé is the most awarded and nominated artist in history (by quite a mile) but literally almost never wins the most important awards (she only ever won song of the year once for "Single Ladies"). It's become a racial discussion as well because the Grammys have only ever given out album of the year to four black women (including Beyoncé today) throughout its 67 years, whereas Taylor Swift has singlehandedly won that award four times. Notably, incredibly important black female artists like Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Rihanna etc. have never won AOTY. The last time a Black woman won was in 1999, literally 25 years ago... Add to that the fact that Beyoncé has lost AOTY with incredible cultural changing albums like self-titled (2013), Lemonade (2016), and Renaissance (2022), to white artists every single time, and it was just becoming extremely awkward and untenable as a situation. Adele was so embarassed to win in 2016 that she dedicated her speech to Beyoncé and broke her trophy in half. All this to say, it was a long time coming. Not her most deserving album but it's more of a career acknowledgement at this stage imo, and one long overdue. Artists like Billie and Gaga who are socially conscious were likely crying because they understood how meaningful this victory is. Very happy for Beyoncé. She finally got it for what I always felt was her most Grammy bait album. She should’ve won for Lemonade or Renaissance and even Self Titled. Same!! She was so shocked. For me, it should have been Lemonade tho that won the AOTY..

Stan culture has been insufferable online, especially this year with all of the pop releases. I truly believe Billie deserved Pop Vocal Album instead of Short N' Sweet but Sabrina had a huge year with those singles. I can understand Espresso winning but the rest of the album wasn't that good. But anyway, I said that Billie has won big already and has 2 Academy Awards already, anything else she achieves is a good extra. The girl is living the dream and the freedom to make the music she wants.
Roughhouse Dandy 9,427
Never in a million years did I think Cowboy Carter was going to get the recognition it deserved, but here we are. The girls who get it? Get it. The ones who don't by now never will and that's tragic for them. Congratulations to Beyoncé, history maker and AOTY WINNER ✨ ️ Edited 8 hours ago by Roughhouse Dandy This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss. 1
