Officially changing the title of the community isn't going to physically or emotionally divide anyone. If they think thats the case, then they are actually stupid. We will still support our trans brothers and sisters as we would normally. And those who will not, were going to be that way anyways.

I don't disagree. That being said, the alt-right grip on people as of late is staggering. The othering of people to split the community has become really strong. The "we're gay, not stupid" ad for Trump 2024, gays against groomers knowingly contributing to violence, Blaire White "indirectly" threatening to k!ll haters and demonstrating her ability to do it, it's all an example of how powerful this othering has become. Even if the non-pick-me gays won't fall for it, the tokenist half will. Alt-right media is willing to do everything it can to give these people power. Matt Bernstain (mattxiv) clocked it a few months ago. A gay can simply spout right wing views to look like "one of the good ones" and get on Fox news, and proceed to develop their own power and influence on social issues.

Just popping this here that the person you are responding to just referred to a previous persons comment about trans drag queens being part of LGBTQI+ right movements.

i would read their previous comments before jumpting to accuse someone of having “underlying issues”

I stand by what I said - in my experience when people insist on separating gay and trans community, there's a reason for it they're not mentioning. They still haven't explained how it would be beneficial to gay and trans liberation respectively, even though they clearly saw my comments - I'm calling bs.

It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!

I understand, we can all have these sort of ideas about other people. Its natural. Just pointing it out not to make immediate conclusion. I myself can fall into this and not sure that it helps the argument. Other than that yes I agree with what you are saying. i think the term intersectionality is very important in this conversation.

ANVEEROY

As a South Asian person who teaches Queer Studies in the U.S., some of the responses from people really frightened me. I am not going to come to this thread again. There is a series of misinformation here. The West has always hated the ideology that exists outside the binary. Hijra, Khwaja, and Two-Spirit are examples of identities in other cultures beyond binaries. If you view Queer from an Orientalist perspective, your understanding is limited—try to broaden it.

More power to Trans and Queer folks—we have always been subjected to scrutiny and politics.
