Sexually queer and gender queer can't allow themselves to be divided.

Trans drag queens fought for our rights decades ago, we have to continue sticking together to protect trans and gay youth and maybe leave them with a shred of hope that this bullsh*t we're all living through right now won't be forever.

Besides, gender and sexuality go hand in hand and most people who want to draw a line between the LGB and the TQ+ are bigots themselves.

I think this is such an American centric viewpoint. Gay people in Taiwan or India are not going to relate to trans drag queens from 70s/80s NY. They have their own histories and battles.

We can acknowledge trans people have helped us move forward but both communities face different issues today. Grouping them together removes the unique challenges they each face and makes it harder to identity and resolve these issues.

Ideas and definitions change overtime. Sexuality and gender identity are linked but very different things. For example, we have the term BIPOC rather than just POC because we realize black and indigenous people have different challenges they face. That doesn’t mean we are creating division or saying we don’t support one another.

I agree we should be united (like BIPOC/LGBT) but we can also separate ourselves sometimes if it makes sense.

@CautiousLurker sorry meant to multi quote you too but I’m on my phone and outside right now.

Which are the different and unique challenges that the two communities face? And how is, say, including trans people in the gay liberation movement, made it hard to resolve 'these issues' that you speak of?

You say it 'makes sense' to separate gay and trans people into two communities, but how? What good comes of it?

It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!

Well it's an American state department so...

You can do as you please tbh, I doubt you have any malice in your choices, but for me I'll never let my G unlock arms with any T, Q, I, or anyone else.

Well, I'm from Lithuania, not America, and I very much see anti-trans and anti-gay bigotry as one in the same because I've experienced the later and I listen to trans people describe the former - they very much come from the same place in my view, almost all anti-trans talking point have been anti-gay talking points.

So no, it's not just an American-centric viewpoint. And I have to ask what the treatment of gay people in India is like, because I'd imagine they also experience anti-gay bigotry, no? What is it that makes it so difficult for them to relate to trans people and their plight for liberation?

Also why are you mentioning drag queens? From 70s and 80s at that? What does drag have to do with this? Most trans people are not drag performers? You're so adamant about separating trans people and gay, why are you lumping trans people with drag performance art?

Ngl, It kinda sounds like you have more underlying issues with trans people than you're letting on. It sounds like there's a reason you want the two communities kept separate that you don't want to reveal. So far, all you've done is vague gesturing, saying MAYBE some things will be harder to resolve if the two communities are kept united - ok, so be specific.

all I can say, as a Brazilian gay man, is that we have historically been very benefited and grown with transgender people. segregation does not make sense at all.

go listen to Sylvia Rivera please. now. urgent.

They can say what they wanna say. I’m gonna still be a vocal advocate for my trans people. We wouldn’t have rights if it weren’t for trans people.

All of this is a nonsensical spectacle to deflect from the reality that he isn’t going to help his poorly educated voters. They feed off of cruelty and ignorance, that’s gotta be such a sad life to live.

Transgender people have existed throughout the world in different cultures for centuries. It’s not that difficult of a concept to grasp for most of us but not everyone was blessed with brains and a heart.

Well I'm queer and I haven't disappeared. I'm here and I'm staying so f*ck them, their families, and their supporters. When Trump finally dies the only place I will piss is on his grave

For real his grave will be a global gender neutral bathroom. I for one would be more than willing to book tickets and have that be the highlight of my trip to America.

They want to divide us because they know it weakens us. The whole point of the culture war is to distract from how the upper class price gouges and abuses everyone else. All the division is on purpose. They saw that they couldn't take out the LGBTQ+ community directly, so they sought to divide it to weaken it. Don't play into the game.

Saw this lil comic a few weeks ago. Fits perfectly here. They want us all to be "GaYs AgAiNsT gRoOmErS" 'cause when they've taken down the TQ+, the LGB are next

Serious question but isn’t LGB more about sexuality and the rest of the letters more about gender identity and expression? Why is it a bad thing if they are distinguished and treated separately? I can understand that they are interconnected in some ways but the two groups have very separate struggles and experiences today despite being under one single umbrella term. For example, a lesbian travelling to Egypt will need to take different safety measures when compared to a transman. Some gay people might not relate to the issues of trans people and vice versa… that doesn’t mean the two groups can’t support one another though.

Been saying this for YEARS. Trans rights have such a FAR way to go, and i guess its a hot take, but i feel like grouping them in the same category as gays and lesbians can kind of take away from that. The GP view LGBT as a unit and think since gays have the right to marry, that anything further is pushing a radicalized agenda.

This being said, i would also like to say that i do however understand how it seems you are leaving them behind, or excluding them. Theres different ways to look at everything. But i don't think i can confidently say the majority of LGB people are anti trans.

Just popping this here that the person you are responding to just referred to a previous persons comment about trans drag queens being part of LGBTQI+ right movements.

i would read their previous comments before jumpting to accuse someone of having “underlying issues”

Officially changing the title of the community isn't going to physically or emotionally divide anyone. If they think thats the case, then they are actually stupid. We will still support our trans brothers and sisters as we would normally. And those who will not, were going to be that way anyways.
