Not this basic take on Gaga needing other's to carry her, when half of the Weeknd's biggest songs are featuring multiple other artists, including Ariana Grande  Not to mention his only wellcharting song from this cycle is also a feature.

It's not even an attack lmao. Charts are stupid. Especially for us who follow an artist that hasn't had a true solo hit in a decade.

Most artists biggest hits especially late into career are in fact collabs so its not just Gaga. As you pointed out The Weeknd is recent years is also the case (although "save your tears" was doing fine before Ariana remix mind you)

 

But ppl have a point about Gaga especially struggling. When we look at pure solo album singles that arent collabs or have movie success to assist, her last major hit was literally Applause which is already going back 11 years

 

I think that evidence speaks for itself. So when discussing music from a chart perspective, excuse fans for having some doubts if a solo single will smash. We have 11 straight years of proof to be skeptical

You know this is the first time in ages where I'm not actually that excited for a new Weeknd album. I'm sure it'll be amazing, and I adore After Hours and Dawn FM, but I think I've kinda been over saturated with him the past few years and gotten a bit tired of his style; plus I didn't rly feel the first two songs off this album. Also I'm in full MAYHEM mode atm so other music I'd usually be excited about is taking a back seat. 

I'm kinda hoping this album offers more than what's on the previous two albums, and isn't just more of the same hyper-polished 80's infused synthwave etc.
