SO FAR CRITICAL REVIEWS:

The Guardian 80/100

The Telegraph 80/100

The Times 80/100

I’d agree with this review. It’s a great, solid piece

So happy for the great reviews, I literally cannot wait for the 7.9 from Pitchfork — who always has to aim a bit lower than other publications on most all well-received pop albums, because they have a "brand" or whatever. My heart aches for whatever gay gets to write the review but not pick the score.

*another eyeroll*

The fact that they gave BTW a 7.9 on the retrospective 10th anniversary review makes me kinda sick. Maybe MAYHEM will buck the trend and get Mother her first 8.0+ from the binches at P4k. If not, MAYHEM is another illustrious entry in LG's history of being underrated because she defies mainstream expectations and taste. So proud.

Idk I think BTW is a 7.9 and I love her down. Her impact is less about quality than experience. I think where it clunks is some of the fun but it definitely clunks in parts. And I’m a day 1!

at least the guardian is free :kry:. I would love to read them all.

So far reception is amazing. I gotta say, for me the music was really well crafted. So many details in the production, turns you wouldn't expect. Things that work and i've never seen anyone mix some of these elements and still feels Gaga. We can say The fame etc but let's be honest this is completely different from her whole discography. She and the producers used every trick they knew. Some lyrics are so interesting. I feel like it's very like the fame as it's really a bunch of bangers that could be hits.

Probably not my favourite album, i apreciate it and there are songs that really shocked. An album that really can be heard because of it's diversity but it's slightly tiring like BTW was and ARTPOP. But besides that, don't know if i connected to it. But that's just a personal taste and now these songs will need to gain a life and permeate your daily life etc to gain a new dimension. Overall i don't love when it gets too poppy in a very typical way, some of the choruses kill the whole vibe for me. I'll get used to it. I just know Gaga is really proud, she really proved once again how amazing she is. She put in the work and it shows.

The Guardian review was a good read, haven’t listened to the album yet so I’m kinda worried about How Bad Do U Want Me being Taylor-esque, no shade I just wouldn’t listen to that style much. Chromatica had a few misses too so we’ll see. Excited!!

The Guardian 4/5

After some noteworthy musical and cinematic misfires, Gaga gets back to her core themes of sex, sleaze and celebrity on an album that sounds not retro, but relevant

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2025/mar/06/lady-gaga-mayhem-review-abracadabra

The Telegraph 4/5

Lady Gaga returns to pop’s frontline with horror-themed monster bangers inspired by 80s pop titans, from David Bowie to Blondie.

Variety (positive)

Gaga sounds unencumbered, free from the lofty expectations that both she and her audiences have placed on her. Fame is a tricky thing to achieve, and even more difficult to maintain — no one knows that more than Gaga, and as it turns out, being the truest version of yourself is the best way to do it.

Slant 3/5

Lady Gaga ‘Mayhem’ Review: A Pop Comeback That Fails to Live Up to Its Title’s Promise

The album commits a mortal pop sin: It’s kind of boring.

I feel like this album will get mix reviews from LMs, but the GP will love.

There really isnt a skip in this album for me. Reminds me of NIN and some St. Vincent. :firega:

Can always count on slant to give a negative review. Even though it's not the usual Madonna stan (sal and that other guy) I guess their new guys have to follow the same blueprint...

Its always Alexa Camp to diminish Gaga at Slant from the spot. Hate her so much.
