Trump proposes getting rid of FEMA

LOS ANGELES (AP) — President Donald Trump surveyed disaster zones in California and North Carolina on Friday and said he was considering “getting rid of” the Federal Emergency Management Agency, offering the latest sign of how he is weighing sweeping changes to the nation’s central organization for responding to disasters.

Instead of having federal financial assistance flow through FEMA, the Republican president said Washington could provide money directly to the states. He made the comments while visiting North Carolina, which is still recovering months after Hurricane Helene, on the first trip of his second term.

“FEMA has been a very big disappointment,” the Republican president said. “It’s very bureaucratic. And it’s very slow.”

What an actual, whole, entire piece of sh*t lol.

He doesn't want the responsible, sensible, and humane distribution of emergency relief given to states that need them, he wants state governments to have to drop to their knees and beg him personally for help.

C*cksucker.

Exactly. I'd respect it if he said they should overhaul FEMA, which they probably should.

But this will obviously be used as a political tool to coerce blue states.

The size of his ego genuinely pisses me off. I revolt just hearing his voice and seeing his ugly orange face at this point :saladga:

I know this is kind of unrelated but I'm starting to believe he will get rid of term limits and run again in 2028.

I feel like we are living in very interesting times, which isn't really a good thing :huntyga:

I hope the major blue states tell him to stick it tbh. I can hear the conversation now.

Trump: "Oh, Gavin, you want federal aide to recover from Los Angeles and the surrounding areas burning down? Kiss the ring and give ICE whatever they need to storm CA cities in search of immigrants and I'll consider it :hor:"

Newsom:

He can actually go f*ck himself. So what, the victims of fires, hurricanes, severe storms, earthquakes, epidemics, etc don't deserve help from the government they pay taxes to if their governor won't suck Trump off under the Oval Office desk?

What happens when he and "DeSanctimonious" have a little tiff and then a second hurricane Milton or Helene hits and tears my roof off? Am I just f*cked or what?

I genuinely, wholly, and truly do not understand how a human can be so vile, sociopathic, narcissistic, and malignant. Bigotry is bigotry but the amount of flagrant cruelty he takes part in just blows me tf away.

I think this impossible. You need 2/3 majority votes to change the constitution, of which democrats would not approve nor would a majority of republicans if you ask me.

Tbh for me having unlimited terms is not an issue itself. If the people want to reelect their leaders more than once, why shouldn't we let them? The more important issue here, I think, is that Trump is the candidate, and fascism is on the rise. But if it isn't Trump, it'll be someone else.

In a vacuum that's a good sentiment to have and I see nothing wrong with it tbh.

I just feel like I'm living in bizzarro world atm, I see a very orchestrated effort to make trump this god-like figure, almost feels like his presidency is being live streamed and they are curating what we see.

He pardoned the insurrectionists and then proceeds to take off security detail of his adversaries, just these 2 actions are sending very clear messages for those who dare to oppose him from now on. Plus, he has musk on his side, that man scares me...

Idk, I'm probably being overly dramatic (it's a trait ).

Disgusting. Funny that most blue states that get FEMA-level disasters cover themselves financially while most red states in the same position take government subsidies and need actually FEMA.

A representative has already written up a proposition for this 🙃

It is unlikely but they're really tryna make it happen.

My point is that term limits are not the solution to this, because it's not an issue of laws or regulations, it's a social issue that relates to US culture as a country and its traditional system of governance. Like I said, even if term limits were a factor, there's nothing keeping JD Vance, for example, from winning the elections and continuing with Trump's legacy. Trump is not the main problem here, it's the system that gave birth to him that's the problem. If Trump died, the US wouldn't change course either.

Maybe not but plenty of us would have something to think fondly about while we continue our death spiral
