lastpopicon 12,895
Abra is a SMASH worldwide it's her biggest solo hit in a decade, we are sitting at 8# on the GLOBAL chart, let's focus on that its impressive. Plus, the chart run is still NOT over on the USA, we still have Coachella, radio support still exists, and the streams are somewhat stable. We still have a fighting chance on the USA, maybe not for a re-peak, but to serve more longevity than Stupid Love. Abra is charting for 6 weeks and 19# atm, in comparison, on week 6 (April 18, 2020) Stupid love was already at #39 on the HOT 100. Had Abra been released today -asumimg it had the same performance- it would’ve debuted top 5 cause there’s less competition across the board. With physicals maybe even top 3 would’ve been possible. I get that debuting it at the Grammys out of nowhere created hype, but that decision deliberately cost her 2 full days of tracking and they knew the Superbowl effect would occur the next week. This goes to show they never really intended Abra to chart well, otherwise they would’ve never done that. Sometimes you have to pick between chart success or narrative impact. Success doesn’t always mean #1 single. They definitely considered Abra surprise dropping on Musics biggest night was more “of a moment”, and prioritized that over its chart run. That’s why I laugh like crazy when fans say “she’s going for longevity”, when most Gaga’s singles historically have not that great of a hold on the charts 🤣. They just did not care about the songs chart run and thats perfectly fine. If they cared they would’ve waited until closer to the album to release it. (I personally would’ve preferred they released it closer to the album cause that way we would’ve had a great debut with a fast decline rather than a lukewarm debut and a fast decline…plus, narratively speaking we would be able to actually say she got a solo top 5 and perception wise that also makes the era feel “successful”. We all know how US-centric the industry is, sadly.) Agreed. I think they were going for more of BRAT strategy. They knew they had a quality album in which most songs had potential to go viral, capture the moment. It's a bold strategy and I'm here for it. But it only works if the music is great (which it is)

Might be doing mid in the US but it's a smash everywhere else + Coachella is coming, i'm sure there will be a bump. That vinyl order better be at the factory yesterday lol... That's what everyone said about disease, and there was never any physicals. Physicals don't matter. If hardcore fans want to support, they can just buy it on iTunes for much cheaper which counts the same on the hot 100 I believe.

I don't know why people keep expecting a peak that week. It's great for promo and a great chance to drop a new single/video as the media will be talking about her, but it won't cause much of a bump in the charts

For the same reason people prefer to buy vinyls than to buy an album on itunes, physicals are extremely important and valuable. The hardcore fans want to support but they also want to have fun and feel connected to the artist, physical singles - especially vinyls - are a great way to do this. 1 1

connorfilm 7,251
Radio still supporting Abra is amazing! I definitely see radio helping to keep the song in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. I just don't know what it will take for her to achieve another top 10 hit on the Billboard charts as a solo artist. At least we can always rely on her collabs smashing.

TEANUS 14,540
The thing about ANY media appearance, performance, or promotional activity is that it’s another opportunity for a viral moment. A lot of these things aren’t amazing promo in themselves anymore because people aren’t watching them live as much anymore, like GMA or SNL for example, but in the digital/social/streaming era it’s how they maximize it. SNL was amazing and was highly publicized and praised….however, there wasn’t a particular huge viral moment like Abra’s choreo when it first dropped, Bloody Mary X Wednesday, Bruno’s “aaahhh” in DWAS went viral on TikTok first, Shallow at the Oscar’s, etc. With all of these huge benchmark performances, there’s lots of opportunity for viral moments and in this era, that’s what matters British social ladies with upturned pinkies, glasses clinking // xoxoTEANUS 1

BUT Forbes reported on April 26, 2023, that post-Coachella, their songs saw gains elsewhere: "Shut Down" rose from #189 to #180 and "Pink Venom" re-entered at #190 on the Billboard Global 200 (a worldwide chart) for the week of April 29. Gaga is headlining, with songs already charting AND with a fresh album release, anything can happen tbh.
