Shallow is not the right comparison for DWAS.

No Shallow hate, but let’s see. It never broke any chart records unlike DWAS. It also became big partly thanks to BradGa crave and movie’s overall success while DWAS is just smashing organically on its own without any promo.

ARUTW constantly doing bigger numbers than Shallow now shows that it’s not really that timeless among her hits.

And one that is truly timeless is Poker Face. so Die With A Smile should be compared to Poker Face and no less.

Like sure, Abra is maybe doing better than ROM. But if we make the adjustment taking the apps growth its not the slay ya’ll think it is. If its performing better its by a very slight margin.

 

Exactly. And i did not call it a flop by any means. Its doing quite well. I merely said spotify usage has grown substantially over last 5 years so direct comparisons arent apples to apples and maybe its not super smash level either.

why are you all comparing spotify users growth in proportion to Abra and ROM, and why does it only apply to Abra? Haven't you guys seen the Global Spotify Top10 since January 2025? Abra is doing good numbers, in might not be as "stable" as some wants it to be but for it to be still pulling 4-5m+ 2 weeks in after its release is what we would consider a hit

Maybe it is no longer important to have a label on a single, if it is first, second, third, as rigorous as it was in past times, maybe it just matter to release good music, like DWAS, DISEASE and ABRA. 
 

we are the ones labeling it like it is a need of some sort but I don’t think it matters much nowadays

Yeah, I mean look at Taylor and her last projects, there’s no real lead single, she just dropped a video for a song with the album. In the streaming era this strategy is kinda irrelevant, artists put out songs until one sticks and then release a project or just drop the whole project at once.

Look at the YT numbers, it's a very good indicator.

I would say that maybe the biggest difference between abracadabra and anything off of Chromatica is the general "feeling"

I genuinely believe that PART of why chromatica's recurrent streams are so shite is bc there are so many negative feelings tied to the album & era overall. Chroma was a good album w the worst era possible. People genuinely do not want to revisit & relive. 

Mayhem era is already off to a much better start, some of the best memories are yet to come (release week, copacabana, coachella, tour etc.

I believe that people feeling good and excited while experiencing this era and music will lead to a better legacy and performance for the album over time. 

I think this is a much bigger factor than you would think for an albums success in the long run. Just my opinion.
