Imo digital is okay, as long as it's stored on your own device and not some streaming service's server somewhere. I'm getting sick of reminders that they can take away or change things on us in the snap of a finger. When ARTPOP disappeared briefly, other artists pulling out of Spotify, streaming services taking TV shows and movies away all the time, TikTok muting ALL UMG music overnight (hundreds of millions of videos, our created content, muted overnight). The thing that really pisses me off above all others is that when you pay to 'buy' a movie on streaming you don't own sh.it. When it goes away from streaming it's gone forever. It's a glorified long-term, digital rental. 'Buying' the movie would involve owning permanently like you would physical media. Buying it would be getting a digital download to keep on your PC. Oh and one more thing I absolutely hate is that they can censor/change TV shows. Apparently some old episodes of The Office had things removed for streaming on certain sites. People were wondering why only the blu-ray or DVD copies have that content now. They're getting too comfortable doing this sh.it to us. Literally everything seems to be censoring and bordering on manipulative propaganda these days. They have way too much power when everything we see is in their hands

In my opinion, this is a good thing and a natural step forward. Streaming has made entertainment so much more accessible and convenient for most people. There’s no need for physical storage anymore when you can instantly access huge libraries on streaming platforms. I’m a big entertainment consumer, and streaming has made my life so much easier. I’ve discovered so many songs, artists, movies, and TV shows I’d never have come across otherwise.

Plus, I like to keep things minimal and own as little as possible. If my house were to burn down (knock on wood), I wouldn’t want to be too attached to anything in it. And even if that happened, I’d still have access to all my entertainment, photos, files, and important documents thanks to streaming services and cloud storage.

That said, I get why some people still feel connected to physical media. It’s often about nostalgia or the feeling of permanence. A Blu-ray disc won’t disappear because of a licensing issue or a company’s decision, unlike streaming content, which isn’t always guaranteed to stay. Things can vanish, like when Do What U Want was removed from ARTPOP.

As for movie theaters, they’re not going anywhere anytime soon, at least not if they keep offering a great experience. The big screen, the immersive sound, the comfy seats, and, of course, the popcorn and snacks... That’s something most of us just can’t recreate at home.

this used to be true but is no longer the case

after netflix boomed, along came prime, and then there was disney+, and then along came apple and so on to the point where you now need to subscribe to so many places because each company has started their own service and called their IPs home

Most people don’t need to have every streaming platform at the same time. It’s super easy to manage subscriptions. I usually stick to one or two streaming services at a time—right now, I’m paying for Netflix, and my partner’s covering Disney+. If we feel like watching something on Max or Apple TV+, for example, we just pause Netflix or Disney+ for a while. No need to keep them all running at once.  Plus, where I live (Finland), we also have free streaming platforms with great content. One of them is completely ad-free, and two others are free but include ads unless you subscribe.

Having multiple streaming services is actually better because it helps keep the prices somewhat manageable, even though they’re getting more expensive every year. If Netflix were the only option, they’d probably hike the price even higher.

i'd rather just one subscription of 8.99 getting higher than more than 2 subs being 5.99 and getting higher and of course it seems easier for you, you're lucky enough to have a partner to half that cost

if i wanted to watch all the shows i'm interested in legally, i'd need to subscribe to disney+, netflix, prime, apple, HBO max, hayu and paramount plus as well as buying a tv license... i don't see how that's any better than being able to stay with just netflix that'll get more expensive each year without all the annoying juggling

They are only discontinuing blank recordable blu-rays at this time.
