'Gorgeous' restoration puts the tradition of medieval roodscreens at the forefront

Restoration efforts has seen "one of Norfolk's finest" medieval rood screens return to its former glory.

A project to save a 14th century rood screen from being overrun by dirt at St Mary's Church in North Elmham, near Dereham, has been successfully completed.

The screens, which are found in many western Christian churches, are used to divide the chancel and the nave.

Susanna Wade-Martins, secretary for North Elmham's Parochial Church Council, said: "The medieval rood screen in the church has been transformed by a team of conservation experts, who have given the paintings a real facelift.
