Musk does Nazi Salute at Inauguration Speech

Listen. I hate this man. HAAAAAATE this man. But I genuinely don't think that's what he was doing. It was more of a gesture of grabbing his heart and then "throwing" it to the audience. It was like his big dumb empty headed moronic bafoon way of blowing a kiss. I'm not being naive. Folks should call sh!t out when they see it, but also creating something big out of nothing (and in some cases, deliberately misinterpreting it and running with it) helps no one. The right wing does that all the time.

I’ve stumbled across Nazi Apologia on YouTube before. There’s definitely a growing movement of men who think Hitler had it right. Especially with the rise conspiracy theories like Qanon, which use old antisemitic tropes as the back bone of their lunatic theories about liberal democracy.

Nah he's been wearing a MAGA hat written with the Fraktur font which was the font used by nazis for their propaganda before and during WWII. And during one of Trump's last rallies on TV they were showing images of a nazi rally that took place at the same place in the 30's or 40's... no coincidence there

I've seen the hat, and I'm not disputing any other instances of Trump supporters/rallies, but in this case I don't think he was deliberately throwing up a nazi salute. It's sad that it wouldn't be a stretch for this to happen intentionally, but I don't believe that's what he was doing.

I think Trump's anti transgender stance comes from Musk.  Trying to do away with anyone deemed different smacks of Nazism.   Totally horrible.

I get the point you're trying to make but this is one of the worst bad faith arguments I've seen on GGD yet, unintentional or not. Elon has been making subtle references to nazi rhetoric all year, and now he just did a heil hitler salute not just once, but TWICE on live television.

His entire public-facing personality has been one riddled with trolling, lying, sneaking blatant references into things (Like how the new governing department he's with is called DOGE). Every single thing this piece of sh*t does is intentional, and you're dangerously naive if you think otherwise.

Nor does your point. That’s the thing about opinions. In my opinion, this man has done more than enough to show this wouldn’t be intentional. I could be wrong, though after everything I’ve seen… that seems unlikely.

I don't think so. If Biden or Starmer or Harris had done this, then yeah, it's just clumsiness, but it isn't any of those guys. It's a guy who is an important figure in a political movement which embraces white supremacism, whose leader has used Hitlerian rhetoric, 'poisoning the blood', 'vermin'.

They do this thing a lot. If you say to Trump 'you're quoting Hitler', he'll just say 'no i'm not, i'm using words that are in the dictionary, they don't belong to Hitler'. And if you say to Musk 'that was a Nazi salute', he'll say 'no it wasn't, i was jusr expressing my heartfelt thanks to my audience'. Plausible ? Yes. True ? Nah.

Think about Musk's gesture for a moment. He could have just beat his heart and left it at that, or he could have thrown his two arms wide, or he could have blown kisses, but no, he didn't. Instead the guy who is a key figure in a movement with white supremacist leanings made a gesture which looks very like a Nazi salute. What are the chances that it was accidental ? Slim imo.
