Israel and Hamas agree to a deal that will pause fighting in Gaza and lead to the phased release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, source says

The Israeli government and Hamas have agreed to a deal that will pause fighting in Gaza and lead to the phased release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, a source briefed on the talks tells CNN.

Under the deal, which is yet to be formally announced, Hamas and its allied militant groups are expected to release 33 hostages seized from Israel during the attacks of October 7, 2023.

In return, Israel will free hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

The agreement would deliver the first reprieve from war for the people of Gaza in more than a year, and only the second since the Israeli bombardment began.

Once confirmed, it is expected that the deal will allow Palestinian civilians to return to northern Gaza and there would be a massive influx of humanitarian aid into the strip, where residents have long faced dire humanitarian conditions.

Trump stood in the way of it until he was elected.  Now he'll take credit for it even though it would have happened months earlier without him.

The stupid people will see this as evidence of him as a peacemaker.

Don't be the stupid people.

It’s looking like Trump’s Middle East envoy pressured Netanyahu to accept the deal.

But more information is yet to come.

This looks incredibly bad for Biden. This is the same deal Hamas accepted summer of 2024 but Israel did not want. Now Trump comes in and pressures Israel and they accept.

Biden chose genocide and that’s very clear.

I don't see it that way.

Trump was meeting with Netanyahu the whole time and obviously preventing a ceasefire because he helped him get elected.  Now that he won, he can allow the ceasefire to happen and people will give him credit for something he obstructed for months.

voices in Israel says that in exchange of acceptance of the deal, Trump will support Netanyahu in taking over more lands in the west bank and a war with Iran.

If Hamas only achieved that, after all the death and destruction in Gaza, they are not looking to build a country for their people, they are looking to build up their arsenal once again.

At the end, the Palestinians lost, they have no homes to come back, no food to eat, no school, nothing. Israel will continue their occupation and will get away with murder once again.

Not to be pessimistic but I have a feeling it won't last very long

It won't.. it's not the first time that a ceasefire happened and won't be the last.

This deal is a joke.

I think this is the case too, but it doesn’t change the perception of it.

The truth doesn’t matter these days, only perception, or else Trump wouldn’t have even won.

But the reality is no matter how it happened, the ceasefire is happening after 1.5 years of Biden not being able to achieve it.
