ItsAnthonyz 250
I’m going to keep it as short as I can I think this is part of her strategy and has nothing to do with lack of promotion or bad team management but actually quite the opposite. you see first of all she is Gaga and she doesn’t really need that freshman new break trough artist promo anymore. secondly the main reason isn’t even diseases lack of success. The industry has changed and the lead singles rarely debut at n1. as they are not intended to become massive hits in case it happens its good on them but in reality the GP is really choosing the singles as some songs become trends and some not. Back then people didn’t really have access to choose what song is better than another as back then streaming didn’t exist. You had to buy the song in order to listen to it and it happens that the songs that were pushed as singles kinda made the most impact. now people kinda pick and choose. Proof is Bloody Mary a song that wasn’t even a promo single now to become one of her biggest hits 12 years later, just because of TikTok and ppl digging in her discography. as joker flopped hard and didn’t give disease any push, also bc of the elections and Christmas I feel that Gaga just wanted to keep her promise releasing the lead just to get a taste of her next album. Once the album is released the gp will kinda decide the best choice for an single Edited January 14 by ItsAnthonyz follow your dreams <3
BLOODANDSEMEN 266
the general public also voted for trump and said joker 2 was bad, so can we really trust them? they have poor taste. 4 7 1
Lucas 24,562
Imo the only reason is because she relies a LOT on promotion and her team and her didn't lift a finger to promote the song

The song got waaaaaaaaaay more exposure than Disease

Real Panda 7,637
Disease did chart for 3 or 4 weeks, I know the first 2 weeks it was #27 and #58 on Billboard's US Hot 100. Left and re-entered again at #98, its nowhere near as successful as Die With A Smile but it did chart. It also debuted on Global 200 at #14. It stopped because Gaga's team stopped trying. Always waiting for a moment, paired with social media silence. It is what it is. Seeing how the Harlequin album performed on the charts, gives me a realistic perspective of Gaga charting on her own but much lower than years past. StrawberryBlond 14,235
I think the song started out as being the lead single and was hopefully going to be a hit, though perhaps not a career-defining one, more a hit purely in chart position alone (the UK was one of the few countries where it went top ten, for example, but just for one week and then free-falled, just like Stupid Love). The lyrics tell you that Disease was meant for us, the fans. While it was meant to do better than it did, it was never meant to be a career definer like Pokerface or Bad Romance. It was GP friendly enough that it would give the album a good start, but wouldn't be the best song on the album or even the best single. Almost all of Gaga's lead singles are solo, you may notice. I think she likes to keep things that way because, in her own words: "As a soloist, you should stand on your own two feet for the most part." I think it's quite a power move to continue to make her leads solo, even though the most successful of acts play it safe with a feature to ensure it takes off. Her second singles tend to be bigger hits than her leads too, so she can afford to have a more experimental lead knowing other singles will be hits later. But it was meant to be a proper single. If it was just some promo release, it wouldn't have been given a music video. Trust me, if it blew up, it would've been treated as the lead. As it is, it flopped and we're now left floundering, wondering what this means. Will it be removed off the album and treated like just a stand-alone single? Will it be on the album but no longer called a single or ever mentioned again? Is the album being re-worked because this was the style of many other songs and now that the public don't want that, it needs to be changed? Is DWAS now the new lead as its been confirmed it's on the album? It all amounts to this: Gaga told us the lead single was coming in October 2024. She kept to schedule. It wasn't the big hit that was hoped for, but DWAS thankfully picked up the slack. She's now letting it do the work before the big announcement. With any luck, there will be plenty more singles to come.
pachinko 10,048
Disease flopped because of the music video. It’s not that great. The song is a smash. The video didn’t help it. Edited Wednesday at 07:03 PM by pachinko

It doesn’t have any significant impact on a song’s chart performance anymore, no matter how good or bad it is. Some don’t even bother to release a music video anymore and the song can still smash (see Chappell Roan’s Good Luck Babe!). Record companies invest less and less on music videos.
