I don't think they've changed like you think. I was referring to them the other way around  But I don't know. I think they were producing better music in the mid 2010s, which felt more compelling and creative. Their debuts were fantastic albums. I find it tacky for both of them, to be Flanderizing yourself to that extent, and making your entire brand about attention-seeking gay tropes, and/or randomly looking down at other women (ie Rina, Camila, Taylor) unless it's a vapid micro-influencer you have a weird ironic interest in (ie Addison Rae, Julia Fox). And then there's that screenshot of Troye trying to tell Charli that she can say the F slur... They both need to log off of Twitter

I'm sick of the Grindr culture, and behavior like publicly lusting after straight men, glorifying unsafe sex, etc.. In addition to the unhealthy relationships that a lot of these types of guys have with women (similar to what I said about Charli, preferring to platform someone "iconic" in a Stan Twitter ironic way, rather than fully celebrating women) I think it's toxic, and as a gay person, I end up feeling disappointed by how commonplace that is. I would like to hope for better representation in the mainstream.

Hell I couldn't name one gay male musician who has. I agree about the lust & fascination with straight guys being an issue in the community but equally what is wrong with a song like One of Your Girls. Its a relevant and realistic thing to queer culture & experience that is seen in every country. DLs exist and if gays openly singing & joking about that makes heteros uncomfortable then good. I just don't understand, now especially, why we want gay men to stop talking about our existence and sexual identities. People should absolutely talk about all aspects of our culture & community.
jshoz 126
I've always been a huge fan of Years & Years, but ever since they split, it feels like Olly's creativity has taken a bit of a dip. Communion and Palo Santo were such amazing albums, so it’s a shame. Even if he never goes back to the band, I really miss the older sound—those songs had such interesting production with a slightly dark, melancholic feel. Tracks like "Real," "Worship," "Foundation," and "Up In Flames" were my favourites, and they still hold up as some of their best. RodeckDanny 2,245
I love olly and will always support the songs, but I feel you all. Communion was SO good and Palo Santo is also very interesting, they made great sounds, lyrics, ballads, concepts. Palo Santo was successfuly conceptual and interactive IMO, even deveolping theri own alphabet, us fans interacted in many ways with that album that were very creative, and many songs were very honest and felt fresh. The last two albums though.. I want to like them so much but I can't! there's maybe two non-singles in Nightcall that feel fresh so i'm hoping for a jewel to still come out in this album... Listen to my debut pop single 'Want You Bad'! (link on Insta)

Reminds me of Shine. I love when Olly lets himself have a tender moment through a song like Shine/Eyes Shut/Sooner or Later.
StarryNight 10,103
This one might be the best one so far but somehow they all just sounds like demo songs
