 Well what he's saying here lol, as it contradicts that idea, he's trying to distance himself from that persona, saying that it is "mastered" and moving on from it as if it was a character, you can't move on if that's something you think it is who you are, you leave behind things you know that weren't authenthic to who you are, or maybe they couldve been authentic to who you were then, but not who you are now. Gaga also had never that outlook that she was in a competition or a race, and never treated her career like that, she was always very aware that was how she was made to look at it, but she never did. Plus the article itself calls it a costume, i'm assuming he was ok with that if he let it out.

Maybe controversial of me to say but maybe it's for the best as I feel his music has been substandard for a while now. I liked his earlier work. Kissland was the beginnings of something amazing, Beauty Behind The Madness was his opus, Starboy was a disappointment, After Hours was a bit of a return to form, Dawn FM was a massive downgrade with only a few good songs and from what I've heard of Hurry Up Tomorrow, not one of the 3 singles is doing it for me and I have very low expectations. I just feel he peaked way too early then couldn't top it. In the early days, he was getting to be be a big fave of mine but then he just went steadily downhill.

Let's be real, post-After Hours, his success went downhill in a big way, had it not been for his recent viral success of Die For You which originally came out in 2016, his last #1 was in 2020 (which wouldn't be a big deal were it not for the fact that up until that point, he was getting #1's every year). None of the songs from Dawn FM became massive hits his previous work and nothing on his upcoming album has got anywhere either (Timeless went #4 in the US but its not been a hit by any means) so maybe the way his success has dimmed considerably the last few years has pushed his decision to end the persona? Maybe being just Abel is going to be good for him, though what kind of music that produces, who can say. Will it sound just like The Weeknd but under the name of Abel? Half his usual sound and half something new? Will it be something totally different?

Gaga was exhausted herself with Lady Gaga and we know it, she was exhausted with the concept of celebrity too, now she's in a better place and has evolved

My only issue with this is what exactly is The Weeknd apart from Abel, what element of his music and artistry can we expect is gonna come to an end after The Weeknd the character is gone? I don’t think Abel ever had a strong duality when it comes to different personas
