After being taken in May of last year, she has repeatedly been moved around with her family facing consistent ransom requests. Her family had at one point seen a video of Jamal being tortured. She is just one of many people that have suffered through this slave trade (which can be seen in the photo on the right alone). This incident with growing attention has started to awaken people to the fact that slave trades around the world have never truly ended. ---- Why did I JUST hear about this? This is awful, and keep in mind she is only ONE of MANY! EDIT: It should be noted that while this focuses on Libya, there are still many other instances of modern slavery around the world in place like South Asia, West Asia, etc. he/him/his

We read an article about a Brazilian woman who was being secretly kept in a US household to do work. She was able to get out of the situation and got US citizenship and was very happy when she got out. I think she became a citizen back in 2000? EDIT: I looked it up and found it. She was Brazilian and there was a big legal cause in February 2000 about it. But yeah, slavery is still alive and well in the world, even in this millennia. he/him/his

Good for her, I hope she's living a good life after that. I double checked on the antislavery organization page and 22 million people are in forced marriages. 40% of them are kids. The world is such a dark place. Whimsical bitch
