Why didn’t ‘Disease’ click with the GP?

Seriously, the song is great. But luck and timing is a huge part of what makes a hit.

DWAS unexpectedly being a huge smash & JFAD unexpectedly going THIS bad were „bad luck“ for Disease. The release plan they had was basically ruined and went up in flames with what happened beforehand.

It’s a noisy song with no personality. Very dull. The only thing interesting about it is the instrumental in the verses and I especially HATE the lyrics.

Because the lyrics have zero relatability to the gp

I don’t agree, I find it particularly relatable. Just because it’s not super literal doesn’t mean it’s not relatable. Less than DWAS for GP, that’s for sure, but still

Too abrasive and "ugly" for the GP.  At the end of the day, LG should be aiming for a Brat. If it's quality people will like it regardless of the charts.

Love Gaga - but am I the only one who finds the song pretentious and a bit narcissistic? Aside from the more probable reasons, I felt that it did not possess the level of soul and grit in the classic Gaga hits. A technical marvel in terms of production (vocal layering, instrumentation, etc...) but it just lacked the quintessential raw Gaga authenticity that audiences can connect with. It's lacking depth and objective for me -- key ingredients of classic, authentic Gaga.

It sounded more like a "vanity" project to showcase her best assets and legacy. Idk, I just couldn't feel her soul anymore in her non-Classical/jazz music (starting from Joanne, unfortunately, where it seemed like a theatre kid attempting country/Americana music). And this persona of hers now is reflected in her recent acting role choices (Gurl, calm your theatre kid energy down; not every role has to be an Oscar-bait and serious).

My issue with Gaga is in recent years, she's taken herself too seriously (and too self-conscious) that almost everything she does sounds too studied and perfectionist. I'm just missing the raw, crazy authentic, IDGAF vibe during her TF+TFM+BTW era that would work REALLY WELL  and be appreciated in today's musical climate.

Her persona is too obssessed on prestige nowadays. Sure she's gaining recognition/accolades/industry respect, but it's compromising her personality and relatability.

I don’t think the GP is here for darker music like Disease and songs like this usually attract people with acquired taste. Don’t come for me about Bloody Mary either. BM became known only bc of a random Wednesday TikTok someone made. Although Bad Romance which was a smash was darker than anything on The Fame, it still wasn’t as dark as Disease. Either way, Disease has been one of the songs that’s been on repeat for me since its release and I am still hooked. I am loving this journey so far and can’t wait until the album comes out!
