Whats most major studies? I feel like everytime i see a projection on world demographics on when we peak and by how much its totally different from the last :air:

Ive seen projections say we will peak by 2050 at less than 10B and ive seen others call for peak and plateau late century at like 11B

There doesnt seem to be any consensus whats so ever :air:

I believe the classic prediction was 11 billion by 2100ish (give or take a few decades).

However, falling birthrates and fertility rates have pushed it down a bit in newer predictions.

But the consensus still semi-exists just the same, no more than 11 billion by 2100 :vegas:

United Nations Population Division has conducted research, for example. Wittgenstein Centre and GBD have also their own studies. But yes, projections will always be conflicting based on varying methodologies and impact factors.

Also note population peak and decline will happen sooner for highly developed countries.

It’s mostly developing countries in Africa and Asia that are causing this population boom at the moment.

Yeah i kn, i follow that quite closely, I used to post threads on it

But its precisely because I follow it that Im quite confused. I keep seeing very, very different projections from the globe as a whole from different organizations.

So yeah, i dont think theres any general consensus. We know it will peak at some point, and we been knew that developed world has been below replacement rate for decades and will only grow or stay flat with immigration from developing or 3rd world nations

But when we will peak and at what number, Id take any forecasts with as much grain of salt at this point as a 2 week away weather forecast, or someone trying to predict bitcoin price for next month :enigma:

Dont get me wrong tho, still cool to see evolving forecasts into this and to follow it. I just take them with much more grain of salt than I used to thats all

It scares me a little because I feel like a lot of the people who would raise outstanding human beings and create a good society for future generations are exactly the ones choosing not to have children. And the scum of the earth like muskrat are total breeders

Unfortunately that’s exactly what’s happening. Sooooooo many of my smart and compassionate high school and college friends are married but not having children because of the economy and because of the state of the world… and a lot of the homophobic/racist/utterly stupid people I knew from HS and college are having like 3 kids now. We’re doomed lol
