REALITY 77,938
Is this a myth though? It seems like common sense, especially nowadays. You can't have longevity in the music industry just by singles alone; people's attention spans are too short. You need good albums to survive. Werewoof 2,476
Honestly, i know what he means in a way. I feel that if an artist puts genuine heart and soul into a work, it will find its audience and will last with them. No matter how it’s received commercially. So yeah, albums as art definitely last

You can't have longevity in the music industry just by singles alone; people's attention spans are too short. You need good albums to survive. The industry puts far more emphasis on singles over albums. This is why acts like Chappell Roan got dropped when her songs didn't blow up immediately. It's why Raye was stuck in a horrible deal for years, only allowed to release singles but not being seen as big enough for her label to invest in her putting an album out. It's why songs are shorter. The list goes on.
2School4Cool 6,457
THIS! So many people try to be singles artists nowadays and as a fan it’s always annoyed me. Standalone singles here and there are fine! But without an album or a real project, there’s nothing to grasp onto and connect with for a sustained period of time.
