Supreme Court: Tik Tok will be USA-banned on Jan 19th

Private poll: The future of TikTok

133 members have voted

  1. 1. Is this the Golden Heyday, the prime and peak, of TikTok now?

    • Yes, TikTok will never be as widely used again as now and decline in popularity after January on a global scale
      49
    • TikTok's peak will continue for more years to come (new users from the rest of the world will join and compensate for the Americans)
      27
    • British, Canadian and Australian users will steal ideas from Americans on Instagram Reels/YT shorts and present them as their own on TikTok and become the "New Popular Americans" on TikTok, while Americans remain isolated on Flop Shorts/Reels
      22
    • Western Europe will follow the US example in 2026-7 and also ban TikTok, which will lead to the collapse of the App's popularity
      30
    • Americans will watch tutorials how to circumvent the ban (VPNs, manual installation, etc.) and TikTok will become more popular among youth due to being the hot forbidden thing like alcohol that teens are not allowed to have but somehow get
      39
    • YT Shorts and Instagram Reel will become the new most popular apps globally but China will hack and launch a cyber attack on them and put them in demise, too
      21

I love the american self esteem of thinking that because they don't use something it won't be as popular anymore lmao like Kylie Minogue is still standing and thriving

I mean, USA is #3 population wise, with 340+ million, it is a big deal cos currently there are 150 Million active users from this country. They can feel that way. Sure, it won't  kill tiktok but that will take a super huge chunk of Tiktok revenue, since China have their own version (douyin) and India already banned it since 2020.

Nah... Why would their greatest promo campaign rely on Tiktok? That's lazy.

I bet Chromatica plans were actually big and they're not that dumb to rely on a social media platform for the next album rollout.

You're right generally lol

But in terms of english speaking content creators on tiktok, the majority are Americans or US based.

So it would absolutely have a massive impact outside of the US on English speaking nations usage of TikTok

The Supreme Court today has now banned TikTok :messga::patrizia::bradley::neyde::omg::udidnt:

TikTok will disappear in American appstores on Sunday.

This is an attack on free speech and a massive censorship. I mean, we all know America is not a real democracy but even this is a new level of hitting rock bottom.

Surprised the SCOTUS went against Trump knowing he's even more volatile now than he used to be

I think it shows that the Supreme Court dislikes China more than it likes Trump and that the SC wants America to be the sole leader of the world and the SC therefore wants to be the world court. I interpret the ruling as meaning that it does not want to give up power.

But actually none of this would have happened if Zuckerberg hadn't used his lobby.

Zuckerberg is having a party now :awkney:

It certainly signals that the next 4 years aren't going to be as clear cut for Trump as we probably expected. Scotus still feels it has a stronger hand than he does.

Trump's clearly intending to overrule SCOTUS by not enforcing the law.

President-elect Donald Trump has just reacted to the Supreme Court's decision, telling a CNN reporter that the decision to implement the ban on TikTok will be up to him.

"It ultimately goes up to me, so you're going to see what I'm going to do," he said, without suggesting what his decision could be.

The Supreme Court has upheld the law that could ban the app if it is not sold by its Chinese owner by Sunday.

I think there are two options, either simply not implement the law, as you described, or:

What if Zuckerberg met Trump and both agreed to sideline TikTok and simply turn Facebook Shorts/Instagram Reels into the new right-wing short videos platform? How about that? :gum: :neyde::partysick: Suddenly, Zuckerberg had a magic meeting with him at Mar-a-Lago.

Then Trump could continue his trade war against China, even though TikTok never actually treated him worse because of tariffs, and perhaps and probably still would not, even if he continued a trade war against China.

I'm not convinced Zuckerberg is in well enough with Trump to manage that yet.

Feels more like he's on the outside begging to be let in and serve at the moment.

I think Trump will block implementation "save" TikTok as a way of him starting Day 1 of his presidency with a big Gen Z boost.

Yeah, TikTok's CEO was in Mar-a-Lago a few days ago and is invited to Trump's inauguration. Biden just gave Trump his first political victory free of charge.
