RAMROD 117,026
Gov. Gavin Newsom of California declared a state of emergency over the H5N1 avian influenza virus on Wednesday. The bird flu has been spreading rapidly through US dairy cattle herds since March, with infections confirmed in 16 states. Its jump from birds to cows surprised many virologists and raised concerns about the possibility that it could mutate enough to sustain human-to-human transmission. For now, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not detected humans spreading the virus to each other and says the risk to the public remains low. Still, 61 human cases have been confirmed across the country, with 34 of them in California. Many of these cases have been linked to infected cows or birds. Newsom's declaration, which his office called a "proactive action," followed the detection of new cattle infections on dairy farms in Southern California, according to the office's statement. "This proclamation is a targeted action to ensure government agencies have the resources and flexibility they need to respond quickly to this outbreak," Newsom said in a statement. The FDA has said that grocery-shelf beef and dairy continue to be safe to consume. However, the FDA and unaffiliated virus experts have advised against drinking raw milk, which is not pasteurized and can contain harmful microorganisms. "While the risk to the public remains low, we will continue to take all necessary steps to prevent the spread of this virus," Newsom said. Also on Wednesday, the CDC confirmed the first case of severe symptoms in a human H5N1 infection, in Louisiana. https://www.businessinsider.com/california-governor-declares-proactive-state-of-emergency-bird-flu-virus-2024-12#:~:text=California Gov. PartySick 172,489
Good. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. This declaration will ensure resources are allocated properly to keep the threat minimal. At least until Jan 20th when modern medicine begins to fight for its right to exist in "the most advanced country on earth". Who cares about bird flu when polio's coming back Whimsical bitch

That state has 40 million people, there are less than 100 cases nation wide, there have been zero cases of human to human infections and only one person has had severe symptoms and they practically live on the east coast. You can still travel to California. It's a lovely state.

Who cares about bird flu when polio's coming back I watched the full trump interview the other day, over an hour, and he said yes they're looking into vaccines and their safety but he also said the polio vaccine is one of the most amazing medical achievements. It's not gonna be as bad as yall are thinking. In 2016 when he won everyone cried ww3 and we ended jp having no wars for 4 years. People are just panicking. Last time he was president we reached the point where over a thousand Americans a day were dying preventable deaths from a respiratory virus. This time, he wants to put all of the federal government's healthcare regulations and funding in the hands of a man who is directly responsible for a polio outbreak, has said numerous times that vaccines should be banned, doesn't believe in pasteurized milk or fluoride in drinking water, and eats roadkill. I don't really care what Trump says. He's the biggest f*cking liar in politics and that's saying something. Whimsical bitch

It's a measure to make sure the spread of this disease doesn't become a problem. The declaration's intention isn't to cause panic. That's the media's job.
