What's the point? She was invited to the White House (arguably a larger and more impactful platform) and chickened out at the last second 'cause someone convinced her Joe Biden would have her killed or something if she said something about Palestine...which she was invited to do :toofunny:

Ain't nobody cares what she says in front of a bunch of celebrities. Especially when she's sitting here calling the whole thing pointless to begin with lmao

God I find her so damn insufferable :air: she gives me that South Park episode where a whole city was choked in smog caused by people smelling their own farts.

I listened to her music and now I can’t hate her. It’s quality music that’s here to stay. I want to see her evolve like Gaga.

Yeah, people forget that Gaga accepted her first VMA by saying “This is for God and for the gays” lmao

Exactly, and she then spent about 2 years of her career campaigning for the repeal of Dont Ask, Dont Tell on a massive and very public scale. Chappell is young and intelligent enough to hopefully bring it up, as a white cis woman she needs to stand by the sisterhood. As do we on here as majority gay men tbh.

I like her as a person and respect her artistry however I’d describe her as physically like Gaga but musically like Taylor Swift. But I’m sure she’ll grow and experiment as her career goes on.

What's so cool about being controversial for the sake of being controversial?

Normally I agree with you, but I loved it when Kathy Griffin attention *****'d her emmywin to front pages around the world when she said

"I want you to know no one has less to do with this award than jesus"

and

"Suck it, Jesus"

and

"This award is my God now"

:golfclap:

As for Chappel Roan, she can't take the heat, so she should stay out of the kitchen.  :golfclap:

Anyone who actually watched the episode knows that she said this in a light-hearted, joking way. Almost self-depricating.

Y'all assuming she said it as a threat or something :triggered:

Why is her gender being mentioned? Let's just focus on the attitudes she's displaying. :franminervini:

I just feel like the gender is being mentioned to prompt me to consider the moral correctness of my comments but how does the gender affect it? :franminervini:

When she says controversial what my guess is she probably means is bringing up Trans Rights on such a global stage.

If that was the case, then she should just say she'll defend trans rights at the Grammys or something. The way she expresses herself has been pretty flamebait-ey, it has 'pick me' energy written all over it. :franminervini:

During A Carpool Karaoke Christmas, Chappell Roan(26) spoke about her recognition from the Recording Academy. She called the Grammys a "double-edged sword," likening it to a "talent show for the popular kids."

However, the singer is excited about the recognition she received as a "gay artist." "How amazing is it that a gay artist wrote a gay song that went No. 1 with a gay writer who did not grow up in the industry, did not have an in, has been busting her ass for a decade?" she told Lowe.

Added Roan, "It’s an honor to be nominated with some of the other artists."

When Lowe asked if she had a speech written, she responded: "I don’t have a speech yet, but you know me. I’m going to say something controversial. Why not?"

I haven’t and won’t hop on the hate train for this girl (because the public just loves to build someone up to break ‘em down), but this is totally not something you should say prior to the event. Either do it or don’t.

I hope she changes up her PR game in the next year. She’s young, but Gaga was 22 in 2008 and had a far better record playing the PR game (and a game it totally is).

Chappell Roan needs to stop revealing her hand to the public.

This thread makes it seem like she said it as some sort of announcement. She was just spitballing and joking about acceptance speeches, as part of a larger conversation about the Grammys.

It's not as serious as most people in this thread treat it to be.

I don't know about her other alleged flamebait-ey moments but I do know that this one is being highly exaggerated. It was a throwaway comment from a casual conversation in a 15 minute interview segment :selena:

This thread title makes it look way more like a big statement than what it actually was. She's not the one being flamebait-ey in this scenario, and it kinda pisses me off how quick everyone is to bash her.
