People have been using it recreationally for hundreds of years, though :giggle:It's not like people just started getting stoned a few decades ago

I think his problem is similar to mine is that once it becomes legal, it takes away the higher potential for it being only used recreationally for a lot of people. Whilst yes, you can’t get addicted to weed itself you can 100% become addicted to the effects of it, although it doesn’t have a chemical that your body can become addicted to physically you can become psychologically become addicted to it and the effects it has on you.

im personally of the stance no drugs (non medical unregulated ones anyway) should be legal

Why is it so hard for people to realize marijuana in moderation is okay. It’s not something you should do everyday. In my opinion, you should treat it like alcohol. Once in a while is fine. Also, it affects people differently and some might get anxiety or paranoia from it. I used to be a heavy smoker for 4 years and I’m trying to quit because I personally do not find it fulfilling anymore. My mind feels so much more clear and I feel a lot more motivated to do things and be social.

A few months ago I went to a Chinese massage place and this Chinese doctor told me Marijuana is the worst thing you can do to your body because it destroys your brain nerves and it can mess you up long term. Also, she mentioned weed nowadays is a lot stronger than it was decades ago. It’s also a lot more common now. Basically, she is saying the places that legalized it are in for a cruel mental illness awakening in a few decades. She also mentioned weed can negatively affect your sperm and eggs, which can lead to genetic issues in your baby. It really freaked me out how she worded it and I have been sober ever since.

I mean anything can be "addictive". People are dependent on freaking TikTok, it's silly to say they can't form a dependency on weed :ladyhaha:

The key to this, as with everything else, is moderation and regulation. Decriminalize it and treat it like alcohol and nicotine. Simple.

Each to their own and all that. However I used to be a habitual smoker for many years and quit 6 months ago, since then my life has improved drastically so he may have a point

True that some people will not cope with day to day life on or around weed, and there will be the few who over indulge and become addicted, and that would need to be managed. But the likes of Amsterdam cope just fine and lead a very peaceful, organised country. And it would prevent kids from buying dangerous tainted rubbish off the streets, so I guess I'm pro legalising it.

I have a lot of ex-stoner friends who had reached the point where they used it daily and regularly throughout the day and got to a point where they couldn't handle stress etc in a day without it.

So the effects of it are absolutely addictive and dependance forming. And a former addict like Elton will know that all too well.

I don't agree with him that legalisation is bad. I personally think that the way we've approached legalisation is bad though because a lot of the focus has gone into recreational use and capitalist arguments to justify it (the whole taxation thing). We've not really done enough to support sensible usage & support treatments for people wanting to cut down/go sober.
