He's pretty, that's good for the memes. But the energy of being fed up with America's healthcare system would be there regardless of him being an Italian hunk or a Quasimodo looking dude. At least I think so tbh.

To be fair it's known that Lebanese and Italian people look similar, it's the Mediterranean air

But that person has a point, I don't think an equally attractive person of color would have garnered that much love and universal support.

Definitely think there would be less obsession with his looks (although there had been a small degree of thirst when all we had was his eyebrows and forehead to go on lol)

But the universal support & love didn't massively trend upwards when the mugshot came out. He was pretty universally supported in the days after the shooting before the arrest. Its just that people's memes have changed focus

Tl;dr - His family is wealthy from real estate. They founded a few elder care facilities which ended up going under but they remain supportive of hospitals, especially the Greater Baltimore Medical Center where the family has given over a million dollars and the obstetrics department (childbirth and maternal care) has their family's name on it.

Anyone who wants to know more about Luigi as a person and this author's musings over him and the state of things, as well as the media response, it's an interesting read. Especially this part:

At almost the exact same time the United Healthcare CEO was assassinated, a gunman walked into a religious school near Oroville California and shot two young children before killing himself. This shooting drew almost no national attention. It was entirely drowned out by the execution of an insurance industry CEO. The armed and disaffected young men who are most drawn to this sort of thing will not miss this fact.

I believe Luigi Mangione was radicalized by pain. The shooters who follow him will all have their own reasons for what they do, their own journeys to that violent end. But ultimately, they’ll do what they’ll do because Luigi proved it’s what gets attention.

Even just in NYC there's one homicide every day (a vast improvement on the 90s numbers where there was 10-15 a day but still). If people were pissed off enough already to clap when a CEO is shot imagine how this response makes them feel

No kidding. They had scores of cops scouring Central Park for clues and I bet they don't even skip lunch when a kid is killed or a homeless man is beaten to death.
