South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol on Tuesday declared emergency martial law, saying the measure was necessary to protect the country from “communist forces.”

“To safeguard a liberal South Korea from the threats posed by North Korea’s communist forces and to eliminate anti-state elements… I hereby declare emergency martial law,” Yoon said in a live televised address to the nation.

Thankfully it seems its the president trying to delay his inevitable impeachment rather than any real threat... Well there is a threat but the call is coming from inside the house

Unsure as of yet - for the time being I wouldn't expect major impacts, it's a very very clear attempt to block his impeachment by the opposition.
IF citizens start protesting on the streets against him as a result, then I'd expect curfews/dispersals etc to be brought in.

Also seeing it reported on the BBC live feed that Yoon's own party are pledging to block the declaration with the opposition.
So looks dead in the water unless there's unexpected military support for this, which then turns it into a coup d'etat.

The military just shut down the SK Parliament.

So it's a full blown military coup now. SK returns to dictatorship again.

Veterans and active servicemen largely lean toward Trump (I think in each of Trump's elections it has been like 60%+) so this is not good news
