there was a huge push and rerelease of rockin around the tree including as i recall an AI spanish version of the song 

 

honestly i wouldn't mind if billboard introduced a rule saying songs released over x years ago can't chart

I remember there being a big campaign, both fan-side and officially, to bring that song to #1  Not sure why, I'd say there are better Christmas songs (including AIWFCIY) but sure!

I had never heard that song, I just listened to it, I think it sounds just as good as AIWFCIY. It’s cute. I still think all Christmas songs sound kinda pathetic though

they have recurrent rules:
- song that has spent over 20 weeks on the Hot 100 has to chart in the top 50
- song that has spent over 52 weeks on the Hot 100 has to chart in the top 25 
otherwise they are not included in the Hot 100

They already have a rule that makes it impossible for old songs to chart unless they have enough points for top 50 I think. Imo a chart that's meant to represent the most popular songs of that week should represent that christmas music is objectively what's being played the most this month. So... good for Mariah I guess
